TORONTO POWER‑POP UNIT TAKES A SURPRISINGLY PATIENT, FIVE‑MINUTE APPROACH
Returning with their first release since 2025's The Pink Album, Toronto's The Lemon Pistols take a surprisingly patient approach on "Love Machine". Clocking in at over five minutes, it's unusually long for a power‑pop track, where the unwritten rule is usually to hit the chorus fast and wrap things up in three minutes flat. There's a heavy Tom Petty influence in the vocal delivery, backed by a laid‑back 70s rock rhythm. At first, I kept waiting for the song to speed things up or explode into a fast chorus. It never really does, and oddly enough, that's what makes it work: the band just settles into a loose, comfortable groove and lets the guitar leads stretch out naturally.

Avec plus de cinq minutes, c'est inhabituellement long pour un morceau de power‑pop, où la règle non écrite est généralement d'arriver vite au refrain et de boucler en trois minutes. Il y a une forte influence de Tom Petty dans la voix, soutenue par un rythme rock décontracté des années 70. Au début, j'attendais que la chanson accélère ou explose dans un refrain rapide. Elle ne le fait jamais vraiment, et curieusement, c'est ce qui fonctionne : le groupe s'installe simplement dans un groove ample et confortable et laisse les leads de guitare s'étirer naturellement.

You'd expect a song built on such a simple 70s riff to run out of steam before the five‑minute mark. Instead, the band keeps the momentum going through pure attitude and subtle guitar shifts. Five minutes is definitely a long run for a power‑pop single, but here, I didn't find myself checking the clock once.
