Review: Vingulmork - "Barmhjertighetens Fallitt"
NORWEGIAN BLACK METALLERS RETURN AFTER SEVEN YEARS WITH A DYNAMIC, RIFF‑DRIVEN SECOND FULL‑LENGTH
Norwegian black metallers Vingulmork are back with Barmhjertighetens Fallitt, their second full‑length album following a seven‑year recording silence since 2019's Avgrunn EP. Released via Crime Records, Likskue Productions, and Schattenpfade, the Oslo quartet delivers twelve tracks of heavy, riff‑driven Norwegian black metal. When an album stretches to twelve tracks in this genre, my main concern is usually pacing, it's very easy for forty minutes of blast beats and cold tremolos to turn into a wall of background noise. I came in expecting the usual Norwegian black metal wall, but by the third track, "Sitring", I was still fully paying attention. Instead of relying purely on relentless speed, opener "Ørkesløs" and the tracks that follow shift tempos frequently, keeping a strong, riff‑focused backbone front and center.
Les black metallers norvégiens Vingulmork sont de retour avec Barmhjertighetens Fallitt, leur deuxième album après sept ans de silence depuis l'EP Avgrunn de 2019. Sorti via Crime Records, Likskue Productions et Schattenpfade, le quatuor d'Oslo livre douze titres de black metal norvégien lourd et axé sur les riffs. Quand un album atteint douze titres dans ce genre, ma principale inquiétude est généralement le rythme : il est très facile que quarante minutes de blast beats et de tremolos froids se transforment en un mur de bruit de fond. Je m'attendais au mur norvégien habituel, mais dès le troisième morceau, « Sitring », j'étais toujours pleinement attentif. Au lieu de s'appuyer uniquement sur une vitesse implacable, l'ouverture « Ørkesløs » et les morceaux qui suivent changent fréquemment de tempo, gardant une colonne vertébrale solide et centrée sur les riffs.

"Krigserklæring" and "Svart Time" stand out down the tracklist because the guitars actually get room to breathe. The production is heavy and direct without feeling overly polished, letting Jostein Stensrud Køhn's raspy vocals cut through without burying the instrumentation. Seven years is a long wait between releases, but the album doesn't sound like a band trying to make up for lost time. It's dynamic, heavy, and stays engaging all the way through.
« Krigserklæring » et « Svart Time » se distinguent dans la tracklist parce que les guitares ont vraiment de l'espace pour respirer. La production est lourde et directe sans être trop polie, laissant la voix rauque de Jostein Stensrud Køhn percer sans enterrer l'instrumentation. Sept ans, c'est long entre deux sorties, mais l'album ne sonne pas comme un groupe qui essaie de rattraper le temps perdu. Il est dynamique, lourd et reste captivant du début à la fin.
