Review: Debatonic - "Blast" (EP)
FRANCO‑SWISS ALT‑METAL OUTFIT SKIPS THE INTRODUCTIONS AND DELIVERS A RAW, UNPRETENTIOUS SOPHOMORE EP
Franco‑Swiss alternative metal outfit Debatonic are set to release their second EP, Blast, on October 2nd, 2026, following up on their 2025 debut Slow Fuse. If Slow Fuse was about finding their footing between classic rock roots and modern alternative metal, Blast feels designed to skip the introductions. The Lake Geneva quintet drop any lingering hesitation right from opener "Fall Out," leaning into raw riff power and a far less polished, more organic sound.
Le groupe franco‑suisse de metal alternatif Debatonic s'apprête à sortir son deuxième EP, Blast, le 2 octobre 2026, après leur premier opus Slow Fuse sorti en 2025. Si Slow Fuse consistait à trouver leurs marques entre racines rock classique et metal alternatif moderne, Blast semble conçu pour sauter les présentations. Le quintette du lac Léman abandonne toute hésitation persistante dès l'ouverture « Fall Out », s'appuyant sur une puissance de riff brute et un son bien moins poli, plus organique.
Debatonic
The six‑track EP relies heavily on the interaction between guitars and vocals. Instead of hiding behind layers of studio effects, Guillaume and IgrekL keep their riffing upfront and gritty, giving tracks like "Lumière Blanche", a standout moment that shifts from English verses to a French refrain, a distinct, unvarnished edge. Behind them, Greg and Mr Zam avoid over‑playing, keeping the rhythm section tight so Diogo's vocals can carry the melodies without fighting against a wall of noise. It's a straightforward, unpretentious record that cuts the filler and gets right to the point. Debatonic sound less like they're polishing an album for radio and much more like a band gearing up to tear down a club stage.
L'EP de six titres repose fortement sur l'interaction entre guitares et voix. Au lieu de se cacher derrière des couches d'effets studio, Guillaume et IgrekL gardent leur riffing en avant et granuleux, donnant à des morceaux comme « Lumière Blanche », un moment fort qui passe de couplets en anglais à un refrain en français, un bord distinct et sans fard. Derrière eux, Greg et Mr Zam évitent de trop jouer, gardant la section rythmique serrée pour que la voix de Diogo puisse porter les mélodies sans se battre contre un mur de bruit. C'est un album direct et sans prétention qui coupe le remplissage et va droit au but. Debatonic sonne moins comme un groupe qui peaufine un album pour la radio et bien plus comme un groupe qui se prépare à démolir une scène de club.
