Review: Garden of Stone - "Obsession" (Single)
FINNISH MELODIC METAL UNIT DROPS A HEAVY, GROOVE‑DRIVEN SINGLE AHEAD OF THEIR SOPHOMORE ALBUM
Finnish melodic metal outfit Garden of Stone have dropped "Obsession," the second single lifted from their upcoming sophomore album For the World of the Obsolete, set for release this December via Inverse Records. Mixing groovy heavy metal with atmospheric black and prog influences can easily result in a track that tries to do too much at once. "Obsession" avoids that trap by sticking to a clear, driving backbone. Instead of stopping to show off its different influences, the aggressive riffs build a heavy momentum that makes the transition into the big melodic vocals feel completely earned.

The production handled by Joona Muistola gives the rhythm section plenty of room, letting Kalle Hänninen's bass and the dual‑guitar work of Jere Mäntysalo and Ville Penkari hit with real weight. The guitar solo midway through actually serves the song instead of just showing off speed, leading into a heavy, tightly structured payoff. It's only one single, but it makes me curious to hear how the rest of the album handles that balance.
La production assurée par Joona Muistola donne à la section rythmique beaucoup d'espace, permettant à la basse de Kalle Hänninen et au travail à deux guitares de Jere Mäntysalo et Ville Penkari de frapper avec un vrai poids.
