Review: Winecraft - "Wild Wine Quest" (Single)
FRENCH HARD ROCKERS RETURN WITH A RAW, UNPRETENTIOUS SINGLE DRIVEN BY GALLOPING BASSLINE AND ORGANIC ENERGY
French hard rockers Winecraft have returned with "Wild Wine Quest," the opening track and title single from their upcoming debut full‑length due out this November. Following up on their spring single (We're Not) Out Of The Woods, the Strasbourg trio continue to carve out their place in the retro rock underground. When early press write‑ups start throwing around terms like "heavy and epic" or comparing a new single to the golden era of Deep Purple and Uriah Heep, I always take a step back. It's easy to slap 70s influences on a promo sheet, and I was skeptical whether a band so vocal about their wine gimmick could deliver a track with actual musical substance rather than just vintage posture.
Les hard rockers français de Winecraft sont de retour avec « Wild Wine Quest », le morceau d'ouverture et le single éponyme de leur premier album à venir en novembre. Faisant suite à leur single printanier (We're Not) Out Of The Woods, le trio strasbourgeois continue de se tailler une place dans l'underground retro rock. Quand les premières critiques commencent à utiliser des termes comme « heavy et épique » ou à comparer un nouveau single à l'âge d'or de Deep Purple et Uriah Heep, je prends toujours du recul. Il est facile de coller des influences des années 70 sur une fiche promo, et j'étais sceptique quant à savoir si un groupe si vocal sur son gimmick du vin pouvait livrer un morceau avec une réelle substance musicale plutôt qu'une simple posture vintage.

"Wild Wine Quest" quickly shuts down that doubt. Instead of relying on a lazy, repetitive riff, the song is driven by a galloping bassline from David Bour that gives the rhythm section a genuinely heavy, Motörhead‑esque momentum. What caught my attention was the mid‑song break: where many retro acts would just coast on speed, Winecraft cut the tempo, build the tension, and let a clean, organic guitar solo tear through the mix without any over‑produced studio gloss. It's a raw, unpretentious track that proves their live‑tested energy translates into a sharp, well‑structured opener.
« Wild Wine Quest » dissipe rapidement ce doute. Au lieu de s'appuyer sur un riff paresseux et répétitif, la chanson est portée par une ligne de basse galopante de David Bour qui donne à la section rythmique un élan vraiment lourd, à la Motörhead. Ce qui a retenu mon attention, c'est la pause au milieu du morceau : là où beaucoup de groupes retro se contentent de foncer, Winecraft ralentit le tempo, construit la tension et laisse un solo de guitare propre et organique déchirer le mix sans aucun vernis studio surproduit. C'est un morceau brut et sans prétention qui prouve que leur énergie rodée sur scène se traduit par une ouverture tranchante et bien structurée.
