Album Spotlight / Review: FALSE MESSIAH - "Seven"
INTERNATIONAL COLLECTIVE DELIVERS CINEMATIC SYMPHONIC DARK METAL WITH REAL THRASH GRIT AND DYSTOPIAN BITE
When a multinational project pitches an album as a "controlled creative entity" tackling algorithmic collapse and automated warfare, you usually brace yourself to spend more time reading a manifesto than hearing actual riffs. But False Messiah's debut album, Seven, which dropped back in June on Semetery Records, is surprisingly heavy and grounded once the music takes over. Bringing together musicians from France, Canada, Scandinavia, and Latin America, the project sets out to blend grand symphonic orchestration with thrashy guitar riffs, dark electronic layers, and gothic atmospheres. Instead of just feeling like a bunch of disconnected tracks, the album opens on a massive cinematic scale, gets aggressive and thrashy right in the middle, and winds down into a much tenser, stripped‑back finale.
"Break The Silence"
The album really finds its teeth on "Break the Silence," where Loudblast's Stéphane Buriez steps in on guest vocals. His harsh growls strip away any leftover symphonic polish, giving the industrial beat a violent, desperate bite. By the time Craig Cairns appears on "Hold the Line," the music dials back the orchestra to deliver a gritty, emotional endurance anthem that feels earned rather than theatrical for the sake of it. If I have a small reservation, it's that the sheer weight of the concept can occasionally crowd the songwriting. Because every track is locked into serving a strict story arc, a few passages feel more like atmospheric bridge‑building between chapters rather than standalone bangers. Still, if you appreciate the cinematic scale of bands like Epica or Nightwish but wish that sound had more thrash grit, industrial dirt, and real dystopian bite, Seven is an ambitious record that actually delivers on its heavy promises.
