Album Spotlight / Review: JUNIPER KILLS - "Swollen With Pride"
LAS VEGAS METALCORE QUARTET DELIVERS A MODERN TAKE ON 2000S‑STYLE AGGRESSION
Formed in Las Vegas in 2023, metalcore quartet Juniper Kills released "Swollen With Pride" in September 2026, marking their first recording with new drummer John Curry and offering a first preview of their upcoming EP. The track wears its 2000s metalcore influences on its sleeve, echoing the aggressive tempo shifts of Every Time I Die and the riff‑heavy weight of Lamb of God. Engineered by Josh Bearden at Nevermore Recordings, the mix keeps the instruments distinct rather than blurring them into a wall of noise. Vocalist Charlie Hanks drives the dynamic of the track, moving directly from raw, abrasive verses into an open, melodic refrain. The song’s most effective moment comes toward the end, when Ross McLean’s guitars dart between the left and right channels, building momentum before the final breakdown and giving the track an extra kick that sets it apart from typical throwback metalcore.
