FINNISH QUINTET DELIVERS A GOTHENBURG‑STYLE MELODIC DEATH METAL EP WITH MODERN AGGRESSION
Finnish melodic death metal outfit Morbid Intent features five musicians from Oulu with backgrounds in bands such as Mors Subita, Swansong, and Electric Deathbeat. The quintet released its debut EP, Marionettes, on October 16, 2026, via Inverse Records. The five‑track EP draws heavily on the classic Gothenburg melodic death metal sound, with clear nods to early In Flames and At The Gates, while adding the speed and aggression of modern extreme metal. Driven by blistering blast beats, sharp riffing, and subtle synth layers, tracks like "Ashen Veil" and "Vitriol Shards" balance traditional twin‑guitar harmonies with a heavy, contemporary edge. Instead of standard fantasy tropes, the lyrics focus inward, exploring the psychological fallout of oppression, manipulation, hatred, and toxic communication.
