Severed Angel's eponymous debut album features a collection of the first 9 songs the band wrote together, including their cover of Ghost's Square Hammer. It took the group 3 months to write, record, mix, and master the album, which was produced by all members of the band and mixed by vocalist/guitarist Alex Repetti with mastering by Joel Wanasek. Drawing influences from Helloween, Soilwork, Unearth, Dream Theater, and Fear Factory, Severed Angel has crafted a modern and progressive sound that emphasizes reflection, awareness, and empowerment.
The album opens with Introspection, an instrumental track featuring spoken word by Ralph Viera of Combat and Thrash Or Die, before transitioning to In The Red. Dogs of War and the band's eponymous track continue the sonic onslaught, followed by the ballad A New Beginning. Wide Awake In Screamland showcases the band's versatility with a hard rock sound, while Attachment Unavailable explores the pitfalls of social media validation. Number 8 is a thrash metal standout, closing out the original portion of the album with a bang. With Wings Anew concludes a trilogy suite that begins with Severed Angel and A New Beginning, serving as a hymn that leads to the album's final track, their cover of Ghost's Square Hammer, which was also their first single.
