Back in early 2023, something wicked was brewing in Eindhoven. Enter Dreadmask, a killer melodic death metal band with roots stretching from Greece to Hungary, and of course, the Netherlands. This international squad got together, united by a love for heavy, meaningful music that hits you right in the feels.
These guys didn’t waste any time getting down to business. After taking a breather from their previous bands, it was the trio of John Kourentas, Elger van Delft, and Antonis Mougiakakos who lit the fuse, sparking Dreadmask's first incarnation. And when Zoltán Herczog jumped on board in the summer of 2023, the band was complete—locked, loaded, and ready to take on the world.
Now, where does the name Dreadmask come from, you ask? It's all about the contrast of fear and hiding—pretty deep, huh? 'Dread' captures that chilling anxiety, while 'mask' represents the fronts we put up to hide our true selves. It’s a metaphor for life, really: trying to keep up appearances while battling our deepest fears, our very own Prime Dread.
Each member brings their own flavor to the band, blending those crushing Swedish death metal riffs, deep growls, and haunting melodies. Throw in a pinch of progressive metal’s technical wizardry and a splash of black metal's dark atmosphere, and you’ve got a sound that’s as heavy as it is hypnotic.
