Alase Band’s "Beyond Our Imagination" EP—A Journey Through Emotions You Didn’t Know You Had

Their EP "Beyond Our Imagination", which dropped back on February 23, 2024 via Inverse Records, is an absolute masterpiece. And yeah, I know, it's already been a few months, but if you still haven’t given it a spin—what are you even waiting for?! You’re seriously missing out on a ride that blends everything from haunting vibes to hopeful, soaring soundscapes.

First off, let’s talk vocalists. Alase really outdid themselves here. I mean, not one, not two, but four incredible guest vocalists grace this EP. You’ve got the dark and mysterious tones of Rioghan Darcy (Rioghan), the raw power of Juha Tretjakov (Vansidian, Pressure Points), the unique stylings of Omar Zouiter (Antivalent), and of course, Alase’s very own Janne Lunnas, who not only kills it on guitar but throws down some fierce screams too. These voices take the EP from heavy and brooding to soaring and emotional—it’s a true rollercoaster, but without the nausea.

And speaking of a ride, each track feels like its own journey. "Broken Pendulum" kicks things off with Omar Zouiter on clean vocals and Janne Lunnas on those gritty, Gojira-inspired screams. This track is a banger and really sets the mood. Then, the EP switches gears with the beautifully intense "Love Crime", where Lunnas teams up with Rioghan Darcy for a duet that brings out new dimensions of Alase’s sound. You want prog metal with feelings? This is it.

But wait, there’s more! Juha Tretjakov takes over on the last two tracks, "When?" and "A Night to Remember". The first one brings back that doomy, melancholic Alase sound we all know and love, while the final track is pure prog metal goodness, starting off slow and unusual before exploding into an epic finish. It’s like the perfect ending to a movie you didn’t know you needed.

You can feel the creative energy in every riff and beat. And the fact that they brought in guest vocalists? Genius move. It adds layers of depth that make each track feel like its own universe.

What makes Alase stand out? Well, they’re not your average metal band, that’s for sure. Their sound mixes genres like a DJ at a genre-bending rave. You’ll hear echoes of Katatonia, A Perfect Circle, The Ocean, and even Textures. But at the heart of it, Alase’s music is all about atmosphere and melody. It’s metal, yes, but it’s also so much more—it’s the soundtrack to your soul-searching journey.

If you haven’t yet watched the music video for "Love Crime", seriously—what are you waiting for? It’s dark, it’s emotional, and it’s beautifully shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NER5Nb5ZT1g

Alase isn’t just a band—they’re a family of musical masterminds. On top of Janne Lunnas on guitars and screams, you’ve got Ari Miettinen holding down the bass and Ville Aatsinki slamming the drums. And let’s not forget Ninni Swan, who’s responsible for the lyrics and the incredible artwork for the EP. They’ve all contributed to creating something that’s way beyond our imagination—pun absolutely intended.
