Groovy Death Awaits: Insurrection Unleashes New Album "Obsolescence"

With over 20 years of mercilessly rocking the metal scene from coast to coast, Gatineau’s finest groovy death metal titans, INSURRECTION, are back with a vengeance! After a seven-year hiatus, their much-anticipated fifth studio album, Obsolescence, dropped on September 13th, 2024, via Bam & Co. Heavy. It’s been a long time coming, and boy, was it worth the wait!

These guys have been perfecting their craft for over two decades, blending social and political themes with brutal, yet melodic, bilingual lyrics—yep, you’ll need to brush up on your French and English for this one! The band’s lineup is a killer mix of original members and fresh blood, giving Obsolescence a sound that’s both familiar and excitingly new.

INSURRECTION isn’t just a name in the game—they’ve earned their spot as one of Canada’s heaviest hitters. We’re talking tours that crisscrossed the country, playing everywhere from Montebello Rockfest to the Decimate Metalfest, sharing stages with legends like Cannibal Corpse and The Black Dahlia Murder. They’ve built a reputation for melting faces live, and this new record is about to take that rep to a whole new level.

What’s the Deal with Obsolescence?
Glad you asked! The concept of the album is all about, well, obsolescence—fading into irrelevance, being left behind. Sounds heavy, right? And it gets even deeper. The album closes with a wicked three-part trilogy called The New Uprising, which dives into themes of demagogy, elitism, and the death penalty. But here’s the kicker—it’s all wrapped in a cryptic story of a robotic uprising. Think Terminator, but with political extremism metaphors. How’s that for metal with brains?

Long-time fans might notice something sneaky—Obsolescence kicks off with the final notes of their 2017 album Extraction. Yeah, they’ve got layers like that. It’s the little things, folks.

The Band Weighs In:
“We think people are really gonna dig this one,” the band shares, clearly stoked about the album’s reception. “It’s got that classic INSURRECTION sound everyone loves, but with some fresh twists. Some tracks will grab you right away, others might take a few listens to grow on you—but that’s the beauty of it! We want folks to have fun, and at the same time, if you’re looking for more depth, it’s there too".
They continue: “We’re like an onion—there’s the immediate, heavy, headbang-worthy stuff, but if you peel back the layers, you’ll find unexpected harmonies and lyrics that pack a punch. Plus, we’ve got bilingual songs, so you might need to learn a second language!”
Before You Headbang Too Hard...
