What's New:

Les Enfants de Dagon: Unearthing Dark, Orchestral Metal Inspired by Lovecraft

It all started back in mid-2019, when a group of musicians with a passion for the darker side of metal joined forces to create something... well, otherworldly. Enter LES ENFANTS DE DAGON, a band that mixes the dense layers of Black, Death, and Doom Metal to produce a sound so dark, it's like staring into the abyss—only to realize the abyss is staring right back at you. Yeah, it's that intense.

Inspired by the terrifying mythology of H.P. Lovecraft, the band spins tales of ancient gods and eerie, oceanic horrors. Their first album, “De Profundis”, isn't just music—it's an experience, a journey into a dark, atmospheric world where the line between reality and nightmare blurs. You thought death metal was just about speed and brutality? Think again. LES ENFANTS DE DAGON offer a rich, orchestral blend of haunting melodies and thunderous riffs, all while weaving an intricate story that pulls you deeper with each track.

The story behind the album? Well, we’re whisked away to the 1920s, where a Catholic priest named Pierre Duval, feeling out of place in his native France, heads to the mysterious, fog-draped shores of Innsmouth in the USA. Once there, things quickly go from weird to downright terrifying. Duval stumbles upon a secret society worshipping none other than the ancient sea deity Dagon (cue ominous music). The more he digs, the more unsettling the town becomes. I mean, what could possibly go wrong when you mix a small town, secret cults, and a god from the deep?

But that’s not all—oh no, the story doesn’t stop when the last note of the album fades. To keep the Lovecraftian vibes going, LES ENFANTS DE DAGON have also penned an original book (yes, a book!), continuing the tale with a new character: Inspector Howard, investigating the deaths of a young woman and a missing priest. And where does it all take place? Right back in the creepy streets of Innsmouth. You can grab a copy on their Bandcamp page—don’t say I didn’t warn you!

If you think listening to the album is an immersive experience, just wait till you catch them live. The band isn’t just content to play their tracks; they’re bringing the whole Lovecraftian world to life on stage, complete with eerie visuals that mirror their music. Imagine standing in a concert hall, feeling the crushing weight of doom riffs while scenes from the abyss unfold before your eyes. It’s like stepping into a living nightmare—and loving every second of it.

What the Critics Are Saying:
And it’s not just us who think LES ENFANTS DE DAGON is onto something special. The reviews are in, and let’s just say the metal world is paying attention.

Soil Chronicles (FR) had this to say:
"Les Enfants de Dagon bring Lovecraft’s dark and mysterious atmosphere to life in a personal way. We’re eagerly awaiting what comes next from these talented musicians. Definitely a band to keep an eye on!"

Over at World of Metal (Brazil):
"Musically, we have a solid album, and the story is captivating. While some elements are familiar to the genre, this debut is a strong first step, especially for fans of gothic sounds. The vocal work from Laurent Francheteau and Céline Chassy adds a superior touch to the songs".

Hard Force (FR) chimed in with praise:
"Tracks like 'A Silent Pier' and 'De Profundis Mysteriis' are heavy and atmospheric, while others like 'Esoteric Order Of Dagon' hit harder with black metal ferocity. You can definitely hear a Cradle of Filth influence, especially in the vocals. Add a bit of doom and death brutality, and you’ve got Les Enfants de Dagon in all their dark glory".

What makes this band truly stand out is their ability to fuse the aggressive energy of black and death metal with an emotional, almost cinematic scope. It’s like watching a film unfold, only the soundtrack is a brutal symphony of riffs and growls. Metal News (FR) even compared their artistic ambition to The Lord of the Rings trilogy:
"If they manage to complete their trilogy, we’ll witness a project as grand as Peter Jackson’s masterpiece—only set in Lovecraft’s universe. A huge surprise, a band to discover, and a path worth following".

Over at Metal Head (Italy), the vocal variety is what caught their ear:
"The band plays like a flowing stream, blending symphonic black metal with doom, death, and gothic elements. The use of soprano and growl vocals, along with sporadic screams, gives their sound a Cradle of Filth vibe. A solid production ensures that the instruments create a rich sonic tapestry, both aggressive and melodic".

And finally, Metal Division (DE) loved the dynamic shifts in their music:
"The pieces never lack variety and impress with their blend of aggressiveness and melancholy. Tracks like 'Facing Darkness Part II' erupt with sudden force, almost exploding. For me, this album is a gem that only grows with time!"

LES ENFANTS DE DAGON have crafted something rare with De Profundis—an album that’s both a nod to the old gods of metal and a step forward into new, dark territories. Their blend of rich storytelling, heavy music, and ambitious live performances is a breath of fresh, cold air in the metal scene. It’s not just an album; it’s an experience. If you’re a fan of Lovecraft, doom-laden metal, or simply enjoy being taken on a journey through music, this is one ride you don’t want to miss.
