Buckle up, metalheads, ‘cause this is a story you don’t hear every day! Retched, the thrash titans from the USA, are making a grand return with their long-lost gem The Overlord Messiah. After decades in the dark, this beast of an EP is finally breaking free on September 24th, 2024, thanks to Sliptrick Records.
But let’s rewind a bit, shall we?
Way back when in the late 80s, Logan Makiah and Doug Jackson were the creative core behind Retched. These two masterminds banged out the entire Overlord Messiah EP. However, just as things were picking up, the band hit some serious turbulence. Management wasn’t cutting it, promotion was lackluster, and the EP was basically left to gather dust. Cue the heartbreak. The band fell apart, and their killer EP never got the attention it deserved. The world wasn’t ready for The Overlord Messiah, and soon after, Retched went silent.
Enter David DerMinasian, the man with the last remaining cassette tape of The Overlord Messiah. Yep, you could say he was the guardian of Retched’s legacy, and every few years, he’d dig out that old tape—wrapped in a bandanna like some sacred artifact—and blast it through his speakers. Metal, as they say, never dies, and neither did his hope of one day unleashing that EP to the hungry ears of thrash metal fans.
Fast forward to today. After building his own studio, David figured out he didn’t need a big label to make some noise—he could release music all on his own. And that’s exactly what he did. But he wasn’t done just yet. He kept hunting for his old bandmates, asking around, hoping to reunite the crew. It took seven long years of digging, but finally, in the spring of last year, the stars aligned. He found Doug Jackson and Logan Makiah, and—drumroll—got an offer from Sliptrick Records to finally release The Overlord Messiah.
So here we are, almost 40 years later, and this legendary thrash metal time capsule is ready to melt faces once again. Whether you’ve been with them since day one or are just jumping on the Retched train, get ready for a sonic assault that’ll hit like a sledgehammer.
