Moonin Down: A PsycHARDelic Journey to The Third Planet
Alright, let’s talk about Moonin Down! If you haven’t heard of these guys yet, you’ve been missing out on a real gem. Their latest album, The Third Planet, hit the scene back in February 2024, and let me tell you, it’s a trip. I mean, literally. This Italian trio—Stefano Biagioni (guitar & vocals), Fabio Buda (bass & vocals), and Alessio Tambellini (drums & vocals)—are not here to play around. Well, actually, they are, but in the best way possible. With roots deep in Italy’s underground rock scene, these guys have been making noise for years, but it’s with The Third Planet that they’ve really taken off.
Before we dive into the album, a bit of backstory: They were once known as Blues So Bad—a name that makes you want to dig out your dad’s old vinyl, doesn’t it? Under that name, they put out The Monday of the Shoemaker, an album full of gritty blues and garage rock goodness. Oh, and fun fact—they also snagged a spot on Fuzztones Illegitimate Spawn with their track My Nothing. Ever heard of it? You might want to check that one out too if you're into some fuzzy, dirty riffs.
But back to The Third Planet. This record is far from your typical psych rock album. No cookie-cutter stuff here. Instead, you’re getting a whirlwind of sounds—from Psychedelia, to Hard Blues, to some wild Desert Rock vibes, all wrapped up in what they’ve coined PsycHARDelic Rock. And I have to say, it fits them like a glove. Just press play, close your eyes, and let it take you. You can almost picture yourself speeding down a desert highway at dusk, with nothing but the horizon ahead. There’s this raw, live energy in the album, and honestly, that’s no surprise—they’re all about playing live. You can tell that’s where they thrive, where the magic happens.
And let’s be real, the chemistry between these three is something else. Their sound feels alive, like it’s breathing and moving with every beat. You get that vibe throughout the album—a bit rough around the edges, but in the best, most authentic way. None of that overproduced, polished stuff. They wanted to capture their live energy, and boy, did they deliver.
If you're into genres that don’t fit neatly into a box, this is for you. The Third Planet is a blend of everything these guys love—psychedelia, garage rock, hard-hitting blues. But it’s more than that. It’s unpredictable. It’s vibrant. It’s Moonin Down.
