Revving Up Metal Mayhem: The Tale of Naitaka

Somewhere in the heart of Kelowna, BC, 2019, a band erupts like a sonic volcano—Naitaka. These cats serve up a zesty cocktail of thrash metal with just a pinch of power and a whiff of melo-death. You might call it a musical smorgasbord, but whatever you call it, make sure you crank it up loud.

Cara McCutchen, the vocal powerhouse originally from Edmonton, AB, once roared with Mortillery and ex-Minax, before teaming up with seasoned guitarist Troy Melnyk (known for raising havoc in Worship or Sin, Sacrilege). The drummer Tyler Dake and bassist John Shippit, who both hail from Kelowna, and finally rounded out the bunch with guitarist Cody Lonsdale. Their mission? To conquer the Okanagan Valley with stacks of amplifiers and heaps of grit.

John Shippit took a step back due to schoolwork overload. Meanwhile, May 2020 saw the band kick off recording their debut EP, which marked the beginning of this titanic thunderstorm. However, not all was smooth sailing; guitarist Cody Lonsdale split with the group in September 2020, leaving them searching for a new shredder to fill those shoes.

As the autumn leaves turned golden in mid-October, fate worked its magic, and Shippit sauntered back into action. With every spin of fate's wheel, by February 2021, their maiden voyage—an EP—hit the shelves digitally and on CD. Come April 2023, the band dropped "Emergence," their debut full-length album, onto an unsuspecting world. Talk about letting the cat out of the bag!

In their epic journey, Naitaka's story is a testament to resilience and musical passion, reminding us that every cloud has a silver lining. Their evolution from a fledgling ensemble to a band rocking the digital sphere is awe-inspiring. If you haven't tuned in yet, it's high time to dive into their sonic vortex!

Catch their wave, and you won't look back!
