Straight Outta Tokyo: The Rise of Straenge

So, let me tell you a little about these “dirty thrashers” from Tokyo, known as Straenge. They kicked things off in the buzzing underground metal scene way back in 2013. Now, if you think you’ve heard it all in metal, think again! These guys weave a wild tapestry of technical prowess and sonic chaos that’ll knock your socks off. With their head-spinning time changes and those killer old-school thrash riffs, they’re often likened to legends like Death, Coroner, and Voivod. Honestly, it’s like a mosh pit time machine, and you’re invited!

Originally rolling under the name “Strange,” they dropped three demos—oh, the sweet, sweet sounds on cassette!—including “Thanks, Thrasher!” in 2015 and “Thrash Carnival” in 2018. Every tape had some cheeky bonus tracks on the B-side just for the die-hard fans. Near the end of their demo days, they decided to switch things up a bit and became “Straenge".

Fast forward to March 2023, and voila! Their long-awaited debut album, “Filthy Microbes,” hit the streets on cassette. These guys didn't just stop there; they followed it up with a digital release on Bandcamp and planned a CD version for March 2024 (Matthew McConaughey voice: “Alright, alright, alright!”). Released by the badass Captured Records, the CD even comes stacked with live bonus tracks. I mean, who doesn’t love extras?

Now they’re all set to dive into their sophomore album, though the title’s still under wraps. They’re heading into the studio late in 2024, expecting to drop this beast in early 2025. This new album promises to bring even crazier stuff to the table with some fresh, unreleased tracks they’ve been jamming together. Hold onto your hats because Straenge is all about pushing those musical boundaries further than ever. Think they can do it? You bet they can!

These guys are more than just a thrash band; they’re an explosion of creativity waiting to be unleashed. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
