Introducing Tantrum, a metal band from Glasgow that is fusing vintage vibes with a contemporary edge. Strong vocal harmonies and thought-provoking lyrics enhance their powerful and captivating sound, which features head-nodding rhythms and thrilling guitar riffs.
Founded by the unstoppable Billy Angus in 2014, Tantrum quickly made waves. They dropped their Rough Cuts EP in 2016, followed by Melt it Down in 2018. But when COVID crashed into the UK, everything changed. Just before the lockdown, they parted ways with vocalist Steven Swanson and began the challenging search for a new frontman.
In September 2021, Mark Reid stepped into the spotlight after a 24-year hiatus. As they were gearing up for their second album, guitarist Steve Waddell opted to go solo, prompting Tantrum to regroup and release an EP, Worlds End, with the four completed tracks.
After 38 days of auditions, they found Baz Fitzsimmons as their new guitarist. With a style honed from his time in Syth, Baz seamlessly blended into their signature twin-guitar sound. When bassist Ritchie Davison left, Micah Snow, initially a temp, proved to be the perfect fit for a permanent spot.
Things continued to shift after the release of their second album, Another Life, on July 28, 2023, which quickly gained traction—Sands of Time racked up over 25,000 Spotify streams in just a few weeks! Instead of scrambling for a new guitarist, they realized Micah could transition back to guitar duties.
Now, with a drummer vacancy, they called on Mark, who also had drumming experience, to keep the momentum going. They officially welcomed Mark Riches, formerly of MacTallica, in January 2024. His enthusiasm was palpable—after listening to Another Life, he knew this was the band for him.
Tantrum released their third album “No Place for the Damned” in 2024 with even more ferocity. The lineup includes Mark Reid (vocals), Baz Fitzsimmons (guitar), Micah Snow (guitar), Chris Horne (bass), and Mark Riches (drums).
Hold onto your hats, folks—this is just the beginning! Stay tuned as Tantrum continues to forge ahead, proving they are a metal force to be reckoned with!
