Drunken Crocodiles’ ‘AEGONY’: A Gritty Ode to Human Chaos (And Why Your Ego Needs a Time-Out)

Ever wondered what happens when three Italian riff-lovers lock themselves in a studio with a vendetta against digital polish? Meet Drunken Crocodiles, the sludge-stained trio serving up AEGONY—a raw, analog beast of an album that’s equal parts hypnotic and hellish. Formed in 2012, these reptiles ain’t new to the game. After weathering lineup shuffles, a pandemic hiatus, and enough tour grime to clog a drain, they’ve clawed their way back fiercer than ever. Founder Elia Borelli (bass/vox) puts it bluntly: “We don’t do pristine. We do real.” And boy, does it show.

AEGONY—out March 21, 2025 via Octopus Rising—is a love letter to imperfection. No triggers, no pitch correction, just sweat-soaked riffs and rhythms that hit like a sledgehammer to a whiskey bottle. Imagine Kyuss jamming with a fuzzed-out oracle in a Roman catacomb. Tracks like “Autojektor” (7:30 of pure stoner delirium) and “Le Divin Marquis” (a seven-minute descent into decadence) swing between dreamy psychedelia and “oh-god-my-face-is-melting” sludge. The pièce de résistance? “Behavioral Sink”, a 10-minute odyssey that’s less a song and more a existential crisis set to distortion.

This ain’t just noise for noise’s sake. AEGONY’s a concept album tackling humanity’s oldest foe—the ego. “Doesn’t the ego steer us away from harmony?” Borelli growls, channeling the album’s central question. Each track spins a real-life tale of self-destruction, from power-hungry maniacs to everyday narcissists. It’s Shakespearean tragedy meets Tarantino chaos, with a message that sticks like gum on a boot: “Collective progress or bust, folks.”

We’ve all met that guy who’d trample a grandma for a parking spot. AEGONY is his soundtrack, and Drunken Crocodiles are here to soundtrack his downfall. Crank it loud, let the fuzz hug your eardrums, and ask yourself: “Am I the crocodile… or the drunk?”
