Grapeshot – “Toxic Love”: Madrid’s Groove Titans Are Back, Meaner Than Ever

Flashback to Christmas 2010: somewhere in Madrid, Esteban’s grinning like a kid on stage. He’s jamming with José (Elecktra) and Marcos (Terroristars), two names he used to blast in his bedroom. A year later, Grapeshot is born. No frills, no fluff: Just raw, thrash-infused groove metal with a Southern twang. Their debut gig in 2011? Pure fire. Demo tapes flying out of backpacks, sweat and riffs colliding. It didn’t take long: by 2012, the Sons of Betrayal EP dropped, and the track “Riots” lit up YouTube. They nearly snagged victory at the Wacken Metal Battle finals. Not bad for a crew still finding its feet.

Then came The Scene in 2014: Dirtier, louder, more defiant. Festivals like Metal Lorca were no match for their crushing wall of sound. But it was 2017’s All About to End that marked the turning point. They even outshone Turisas at Granito Rock. No small feat.

The pandemic nearly derailed everything. Their third full-length Suckcess was meant to drop in 2020 but you know how that went. It finally surfaced in 2021, and the critics took notice. Spain’s stages were rocked once again.

Fast-forward to 2024, and Grapeshot is showing no signs of slowing. Enter Oblivion, a five-track EP that hits like a truck full of gravel and gasoline. It flirts with sludge, dips into Southern grit, and emerges with something mature, violent, and alive. The lead single, “Toxic Love”, drops alongside a video that’s as gnarly as the song itself. Think: dirty riffs, sweaty intensity, and just enough chaos to keep things dangerous.

These guys didn’t just survive, they evolved. Oblivion is the sound of a band refusing to stay quiet, doubling down on everything that made them loud in the first place. This isn’t just growth, it’s a sonic uppercut to complacency.

Grapeshot clawed their way out of Madrid’s underground and earned their scars on stages across Europe. Now, they’re not just back. They’re roaring.
