Upcomling Release: Ashes of the Sun
Ashes of the Sun - “Here to Stay”: When Metal Meets Soul and the Gods Fall
Let’s cut through the noise for a second. Ethan D. Henry , better known as the drummer in Freya and co-founder of The Last Season , just dropped something new, something his . A one-man solo project called Ashes of the Sun , with a debut album titled Gods With Machines , due August 1st via his own label, Ignorant Tourist Productions .
And if you think Ethan just sat back and let someone else do the work? Think again. He wrote it all, played every instrument, sang every note, and even designed the artwork. This is not a side project, it’s a full-on statement.
The latest single, “Here To Stay” , is about a community realizing the gods they’ve been worshipping are just lying overlords. No big surprise there, really. The video’s got some serious vibes, check it out here:
If you love your music with a mix of grunge, metal, and alternative rock, this one hits right where it counts. Think Alice in Chains meets Soundgarden , with a little Metallica thrown in for good measure. It’s heavy, it’s melodic, and it’s got that late ‘90s / early 2000s feel that makes you miss your old band t-shirt and first tattoo.
Henry says it best:
“If Metallica and Megadeth had a baby with Alice in Chains, that’s Ashes of the Sun.”
He also admits he wasn’t sure what these songs would become at first. But once he laid down vocals and solos, everything clicked. And honestly? That kind of honesty is rare. That kind of passion? Even rarer.
Want more before August?
I’ll say this, I’m not usually into solo projects from drummers. But this one? This one earns its place. There’s heart in every riff, every lyric, every pause. Ethan didn’t just make an album: he made a world worth getting lost in.
