Korypheus: When Kyiv Meets the Choir of Djent

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an8wfpbyVu4

If you’ve ever wondered what it sounds like when a choir of locusts and a math teacher form a band in Kyiv, Ukraine, welcome to Korypheus. Named after the Greek term for “conductor” or “one who leads,” this progressive/djent quintet has been steadily carving their name into the underground with precision, groove, and a taste for the epic.

Their 2020 album Over the Rainbow (yes, really) was a solid step forward, especially with the track “Goliath” getting some well-earned attention. It’s not just a riff-heavy slab of metal; it’s got layers, dynamics, and that certain something that makes your brain go “hmm… this is actually clever.” They’ve played with Slaughter To Prevail, appeared at Power Of Ukraine, and even got nominated for Best Ukrainian Metal Act in 2020. Not bad for a bunch of guys from the capital city trying to out-think and out-groove everyone else.

Now they’re back with Gilgamesh, due September 26 via M-Theory Audio, and if their past work is any indication, it’s going to be a beast. Think djent with brains, prog with teeth, and a dash of Eastern European melancholy lurking in the shadows.

So whether you're into Periphery meets Opeth or just want some heady, rhythmic madness with a side of philosophy, Gilgamesh might just be the album you didn’t know you needed.

Stay tuned. The conductor is returning.
