New Release: Distraught Drop "inVolution": It’s Not an Evolution, It’s a Collapse

Let’s get one thing straight: when a band’s been thrashing since the Reagan era and still gives zero fucks, you listen. Especially when they’re not screaming about demons, but about you, your apathy, your plastic bottles, your willful blindness to the planet burning. Brazilian veterans Distraught just dropped their new EP, inVolution, and it’s not a step forward. It’s a descent, into rage, into truth, into the five elements of ecological doom.

Five tracks. Five elements. Five gut punches. From the suffocating sludge of “Bloody Mines” (Earth) to the scorched-earth sprint of “Setfire” (Fire), this isn’t just thrash with a message: it’s a sermon with blast beats. “Extermination Of Mother Nature” doesn’t mince words. Neither does “Truth Denied”, which sounds like a society unraveling in real time, guitars like alarms, vocals like a prosecutor with a mic and a grudge.

Recorded in Porto Alegre with a crew of old-school warriors, including Benhur Lima on the mix and the legendary Marcelo Vasco (Slayer, Machine Head) on cover art, inVolution feels heavy in every sense. The production’s sharp, but not sterile. The riffs are fast, but never forget the groove. And André Meyer’s voice? Still a chainsaw wrapped in barbed wire. After 35 years, he’s not tired. He’s tired of this shit.

And let’s talk about that title: inVolution. Not evolution. Involution. A devolution. A collapse from within. That’s the thesis. We’re not advancing, we’re regressing, polluting, denying, destroying. And Distraught aren’t here to comfort you. They’re the alarm clock you kick across the room.

This is what thrash should be: urgent, informed, unrelenting. If you miss the days when metal meant something, when it wasn’t just memes and moshpits, inVolution is your wake-up call.

Stream it, share it, scream along. And maybe, just maybe, do something before the next EP’s called Extinction.
