Dovorian’s Hunters: When a Lockdown Project Outgrows Its Bedroom

Dovorian started as a pandemic side hustle: just Adam Sayer, a guy from Dover, UK, writing riffs in his spare room. Fast forward a few years, and suddenly we’ve got three full-length albums, a rotating cast of Evergrey’s finest, and a sound that’s equal parts melodic metal punch and prog-tinged ambition.
The formula? Adam handles the music, Tom S. Englund (Evergrey) crafts the lyrics and vocal melodies, and Jonas Ekdahl (also Evergrey) polishes it all with drums, production, and that Scandinavian sheen. The result? A hybrid beast, thrashy enough to moshing to, but with ballads that’ll catch you off guard. Think early In Flames’ melody meets Opeth’s moodier moments, but with a modern, streamlined edge.
Their third album, Hunters (dropped September 29, 2023), is the most focused yet. The title track, backed by a Patric Ullaeus-directed video, is pure anthemic melodic metal, the kind that’ll have you air-guitaring in your kitchen. Then there’s "Heathens", where Johan Niemann (Evergrey) lays down some bass groove, and "Someone Like You", where Vikram Shankar (Silent Skies, Redemption) drops in with piano work that’s surprisingly tender for a band this heavy.
In a world where melodic metal can feel samey, Dovorian stands out by keeping it real: no overblown concepts, just solid songs with heart and hooks.
