THUNDER RISING JUST DROPPED “THE PRISONER” AND IT HITS WAY HARDER THAN EXPECTED
Watch the VideoAlright, so Thunder Rising released The Prisoner and… honestly, I did not expect this. I thought it'd be another typical power ballad, you know, nice but predictable. But nope! this one lands right in the gut. It's a love story turning into a cage, and the way the vocals strain on the chorus? Man, that stuff sticks with you longer than you'd think.
What really got me is the sound. Their whole “Real Vintage” thing... well, it's actually real. You hear that Hammond humming in the back, the guitar with this warm, slightly dusty tone (in the best possible way), and then the solo comes in like it just walked out of a Rainbow Rising session. There's a bit of Journey in the melodies too, but heavier, more grounded. Very Italian, in that unmistakable way.
The lyrics aren't reinventing the wheel, but they hit because they're honest. "I'm a prisoner of your love" could've been cheesy as hell, but it ends up working because of the darker riff wrapping around it. And the lyric video is super simple, maybe a little too simple? but at least they didn't try some weird CGI storyline or whatever. Just the words and the music. Straightforward. Kinda refreshing, actually.
I'll be real: I've got a soft spot for bands that don't chase trends and just double-down on what they're good at. And their upcoming album Horizon Line is starting to look pretty damn promising. The Prisoner feels like a band looking back at rock's golden age without turning themselves into a museum piece.
