Okay, let’s cut the crap: Crystal Tears just dropped Athanato, their fifth fucking album, and it's a goddamn monster. Formed in '97, these Greek speed/power metal maniacs have been grinding away, and this time? They didn't just bring riffs: they brought guests. Jay Walsh (Xentrix), Mike Wead (King Diamond/Mercyful Fate), Helena Josefsson (Roxette, yeah that Roxette), and a fucking Guns N' Roses cover that sounds like it was ripped straight from a Terminator 2 bar brawl. Produced by drummer Chrisafis Tantanozis and mixed by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Kreator, Behemoth, need I say more?), this thing hits like a sledgehammer wrapped in melody.

Trêve de politesses : Crystal Tears vient de lâcher "Athanato", leur cinquième foutu album, et c’est un monstre. Formé en 97, ce combo de speed/power metal grec n’a cessé de broyer, et cette fois ? Ils n’ont pas juste amené des riffs : ils ont ramené des invités. Jay Walsh (Xentrix), Mike Wead (King Diamond/Mercyful Fate), Helena Josefsson (Roxette, ouais, *cette* Roxette), et une reprise de Guns N’ Roses qui sonne comme sortie d’un bar brawl de Terminator 2. Produit par le batteur Chrisafis Tantanozis, mixé par Matt Hyde (Slayer, Kreator, Behemoth, le nom suffit), ce truc frappe comme un marteau-piqueur enrobé de mélodie.

The title track "Athanato" kicks off with a thrashy snarl: Antony's vocals are raw, the drums are relentless, and the solos? Pure Xentrix-level chaos. Then there's "Bloodstorm", where Mike Wead's solo twists the song into something blackened and progressive, like Mercyful Fate on steroids. "Naked" throws a curveball with Helena Josefsson's ethereal vocals, but don't worry, the guitars still shred like a chainsaw through butter. And "You Could Be Mine"? Holy shit. Jay Walsh's bass growl and Antony's snarl turn a GN'R classic into something heavier, darker, like if Axl Rose had a lovechild with early Slayer.

Le titre éponyme « Athanato » démarre avec un grognement thrash : les voix d’Antony sont brutes, la batterie est implacable, et les solos ? Du chaos pur au niveau Xentrix. Puis arrive « Bloodstorm », où le solo de Mike Wead tord le morceau en quelque chose de noir et progressif, comme Mercyful Fate sous stéroïdes. « Naked » surprend avec les voix éthérées d’Helena Josefsson, mais rassurez-vous, les guitares déchirent toujours comme une tronçonneuse dans du beurre. Et « You Could Be Mine » ? Putain de merde. Le grondement de basse de Jay Walsh et le cri d’Antony transforment un classique de GN’R en quelque chose de plus lourd, plus sombre, comme si Axl Rose avait eu un enfant avec le Slayer des débuts.

 

"All Sins Remembered" and "Crawl Into Your Grave" are the kind of tracks that'll have you headbanging in your kitchen at 3 AM. Catchy as hell, brutal when they need to be, and live-ready: imagine a crowd screaming those choruses back at them. "Ghostdance" and "Ov Flesh And Pain" double down on the aggression, while "Nosi Balasi" (a cover of a Filipino rock anthem) is a wild, unexpected detour that somehow works. And "Eros & Psyche"? A fucking instrumental that proves these guys can play their asses off without needing to scream over it.

« All Sins Remembered » et « Crawl Into Your Grave » sont le genre de morceaux qui vous font headbanger dans votre cuisine à 3h du mat’. Accrocheurs comme pas permis, brutaux quand il le faut, et prêts pour la scène : imaginez une foule hurlant les refrains. « Ghostdance » et « Ov Flesh And Pain » montent d’un cran dans l’agression, tandis que « Nosi Balasi » (reprise d’un hymne rock philippin) est un détour inattendu mais qui fonctionne. Et « Eros & Psyche » ? Un instrumental qui prouve que ces gars-là savent jouer comme des dieux, sans avoir besoin de hurler par-dessus.
