"WASTELANDS": WHEN THE FLOOR GIVES OUT

Watch the Video

Okay, so... Greece’s Shadowmass are about to unleash their new album Wastelands on January 19, 2026 via Floga Records (digital, LP, CD and cassette), and honestly? It’s that rare moment where a band doesn’t just find their sound, they claim it. Like, you can hear the Mercyful Fate worship in the riffs, the Candlemass weight in the grooves, but it’s all twisted into something colder, sharper: blackened thrash with the patience of doom and the urgency of a building collapsing. And yeah, that’s literally the theme here: entropy, decay, the slow unraveling of everything you thought was solid. But not in some abstract, “oh look at me I’m philosophical” way; no, it’s personal. Tired minds, broken focus, the moment you realize your own internal scaffolding is rusted through. That riff in “Visions of Desolation”? It doesn’t just cut through your coffee buzz, it dissolves it.

The album’s built for the stage, and you can feel it: tracks like “Adrammelech’s Laughter” or “Into Wastelands” don’t just play, they lurch. There’s a rawness here, a refusal to sand down the edges, and well that’s the thing: Shadowmass aren’t just writing songs, they’re documenting the sound of things falling apart. The two “Entropy” interludes? Not filler. They’re the cracks in the plaster. The silence before the beam snaps.

Look, I'm not gonna pretend this is easy listening, it's dense, it's heavy, it demands your attention. But if you've ever stood in a room where the air itself felt like it was holding its breath? That's Wastelands. Give "ΆΡΡΗΤΟΝ" a spin, let it sit in your skull for a bit. Kinda brilliant, kinda terrifying. Yeah well whatever, that's the vibe.

"Shadowmass's 'Wastelands' is a dense and powerful exploration of entropy and decay, masterfully blending blackened thrash and doom elements. It's an atmospheric and heavy record that captures the feeling of internal and external collapse with raw intensity. A compelling and immersive listen for fans of dark, heavy metal."
