Yeah… this one hits different.

After more than a decade of silence, German black metal veterans ASARU crawl back out of the abyss with a new full-length called “V.O.I.D.” and damn, it feels cold. Like real cold. January night, breath in the air, fingers numb on the volume knob.

Après plus d’une décennie de silence, les vétérans allemands du black metal ASARU remontent des abysses avec un nouvel album intitulé "V.O.I.D." et putain, ça fait froid. Un vrai froid. Nuit de janvier, respiration dans l’air, doigts engourdis sur le bouton du volume.

ASARU were there early. 1995. Southern Hesse. Frank Nordmann at the helm, always. One of those bands that never chased trends, never played the scene game. Norwegian spirit in the veins, sure, but with their own scars, their own handwriting. Epic at times, thrashy when it needs to bite. Always honest. Always black.

ASARU était là dès le début. 1995. Hesse du Sud. Frank Nordmann à la barre, toujours. Un de ces groupes qui n’a jamais poursuivi les tendances, n’a jamais joué le jeu de la scène. Un esprit norvégien dans les veines, certes, mais avec leurs propres cicatrices, leur propre écriture. Épique parfois, thrashy quand il faut mordre. Toujours honnête. Toujours noir.

More than ten years since From the Chasm of Oblivion and they don’t sound like a band trying to “come back”. No nostalgia act here. V.O.I.D. feels thought-out, heavy in themes and heavier in intent. The elements are all here "fire, earth, air, water" colliding with mankind, religion, war, downfall. Big words, yeah, but the music carries them without collapsing.

Plus de dix ans après From the Chasm of Oblivion et ils ne ressemblent pas à un groupe tentant de "revenir". Pas d’acte de nostalgie ici. V.O.I.D. semble réfléchi, lourd dans les thèmes et plus encore dans l’intention. Les éléments sont tous là "feu, terre, air, eau" entrant en collision avec l’humanité, la religion, la guerre, la chute. De grands mots, ouais, mais la musique les porte sans s’effondrer.

The first strike was “Raise the Flame”. Fire as creation and destruction. Simple. Brutal. Effective. The album follows that logic all the way through, nine tracks that move like a ritual more than a playlist. Some moments stretch and breathe, others slash fast and hard. No filler vibes. No cute tricks.

Premier coup : « Flamber au Cran ». Le feu, création et anéantissement. Simple. Brutal. Efficace. L’album suit cette logique jusqu’au bout, neuf titres qui avancent comme un rituel, pas comme une liste de morceaux. Certains moments s’étirent et respirent, d’autres tailladent vite et fort. Pas de remplissage. Pas de p’tits trucs mignons.

Frank Nordmann is still steering the ship, and you can feel that stubborn dedication in every riff. ASARU sound like ASARU. Not polished. Not modernized. Just sharpened by time.

Frank Nordmann dirige toujours le navire, et on sent cette détermination obstinée dans chaque riff. ASARU sonne comme ASARU. Pas poli. Pas modernisé. Juste aiguisé par le temps.

Emperor fans will nod. Old Immortal heads too. Gorgoroth, Dissection, yeah… you get the picture.

Les fans d’Emperor hocheront la tête. Les anciens adeptes d’Immortal aussi. Gorgoroth, Dissection, ouais… vous voyez le tableau.

V.O.I.D. was released January 23, 2026 via Schwarzdorn Production. Digital, deluxe CD, limited vinyl. The vinyl’s gonna vanish fast, I can already feel it.

V.O.I.D. est sorti le 23 janvier 2026 via Schwarzdorn Production. Numérique, CD deluxe, vinyle limité. Le vinyle va disparaître vite, je le sens déjà.
