I just spent some time with Chaosaddiction, and man, my neck is actually starting to hurt. This Portuguese crew is dropping their debut, Kintsugi, on March 28th, and if the final single "Drama King" is anything to go by, it's going to be a total bruiser.

They're tagging themselves as "old-school groove," but that feels like a bit of an understatement. "Drama King" starts with this technical, Meshuggah-style stutter that caught me off guard before it settles into a deep, rhythmic pocket that reminds me of Chaos A.D.-era Sepultura. It's got that raw, "in-your-face" energy that makes you want to drive a bit too fast.

Ils se définissent comme du « groove old-school », mais c'est un euphémisme. « Drama King » commence avec ce bégaiement technique à la Meshuggah qui m'a pris par surprise avant de se poser dans un groove profond et rythmique qui me rappelle l'époque Chaos A.D. de Sepultura. C'est cette énergie brute et agressive qui donne envie de conduire un peu trop vite.

What's interesting is the concept behind the title. Kintsugi is that Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold, and the band is using it as a metaphor for picking up the pieces after a bad breakup. It's a bit of a weird contrast, hearing these brutal, Machine Head-style riffs while Rui Alexandre screams about heartbreak and anger, but it feels incredibly genuine. No AI-generated filler here either; they made a point to mention that the artwork is a real painting by Maria "nosfewatuwu" Madalena, which is a cool touch in 2026. Ce qui est intéressant, c'est le concept derrière le titre. Kintsugi, c'est cet art japonais de réparer la poterie brisée avec de l'or, et le groupe s'en sert comme métaphore pour se reconstruire après une rupture difficile. C'est un contraste étrange d'entendre ces riffs brutaux à la Machine Head pendant que Rui Alexandre hurle sur le chagrin et la colère, mais ça semble incroyablement authentique. Pas de remplissage généré par IA non plus ; ils ont tenu à préciser que la pochette est une vraie peinture de Maria « nosfewatuwu » Madalena, un détail sympa en 2026.

If you've been missing that thick, 90s Pantera or Fear Factory crunch, this is definitely going to scratch that itch. It's heavy, it's diverse, and it sounds like it was built specifically for a sweaty live show.
