HEAVY MELODIC METAL AVEC UN POIDS SLUDGE

I've had "False Prophet" on repeat most of the evening, and what's really sticking with me is this thick, heavy, sludgy weight in the riffs. Crimson Day has clearly ditched the polite "classic heavy" vibe for something much darker and more oppressive.

J'ai écouté « False Prophet » en boucle une bonne partie de la soirée, et ce qui me reste vraiment, c'est ce poids épais, lourd et visqueux dans les riffs. Crimson Day a clairement laissé tomber la vibe « heavy classique » polie pour quelque chose de bien plus sombre et oppressant.

The chorus is an absolute wrecking ball, but it's the lyrics about those "prophets" that hit differently today. Milka Uusitalo has this voice that doesn't ask for permission, she just commands the space, and it fits perfectly with this vibe of general distrust they're building. You can tell Jussi Kulomaa's mix was designed to hit hard in the low end without turning into mud, and it shows. It's the kind of sound that makes you want to question everything, or just crank the volume until you can't hear anything else.

Le refrain est une boule de démolition absolue, mais ce sont les paroles sur ces « prophètes » qui résonnent différemment aujourd'hui. Milka Uusitalo a cette voix qui ne demande pas la permission, elle s'impose dans l'espace, et ça colle parfaitement à cette ambiance de méfiance générale qu'ils construisent. On sent que le mix de Jussi Kulomaa a été conçu pour frapper fort dans les graves sans devenir boueux, et ça s'entend. C'est le genre de son qui donne envie de tout remettre en question, ou simplement de pousser le volume jusqu'à ne plus rien entendre d'autre.

Their album Dark Dimension drops in May, and honestly, if the whole record is as tension-filled as this first track, we're going to end the spring with our nerves shot. It's dark, it's blunt, and it feels good to see a band finally showing their teeth after three years of silence. Leur album Dark Dimension sort en mai, et honnêtement, si tout le disque est aussi tendu que ce premier morceau, on va finir le printemps les nerfs à vif. C'est sombre, c'est direct, et ça fait du bien de voir un groupe montrer enfin les dents après trois ans de silence.

I'm going to go grab a glass of water and try to settle down; that chorus is stuck in my head like an obsession.

Is it just me, or do Finnish bands have this specific gift for making a melody feel heavy and a bit desperate without ever fully spiraling into total depression? \m/
