I've been spinning Mothertruck all morning, and honestly, it's a bit of a head-trip. Usually, when a Stoner band says they're doing a "concept album," I brace myself for twenty-minute aimless jams, but Fuzzing Nation actually has a narrative drive here that feels more like a cinematic chase than a studio session.

J'ai écouté Mothertruck toute la matinée, et honnêtement, c'est un peu un trip. D'habitude, quand un groupe Stoner annonce un « album concept », je m'attends à des jams interminables de vingt minutes, mais Fuzzing Nation a ici une vraie dynamique narrative qui ressemble plus à une poursuite cinématographique qu'à une session studio.

What's cool about this trio from Athens is the pedigree they're bringing to the table. You've got guys from Sorrows Path and InnerWish, bands that usually live in the Doom and Power Metal worlds, deciding to just sit down and let the fuzz take over. You can really hear that background on a track like "Dead Old Tree," where the vocals take on this weirdly epic, almost Raphael Mendes quality that you just don't expect in a desert rock setting.

Ce qui est cool avec ce trio d'Athènes, c'est le pedigree qu'ils amènent. Il y a des membres de Sorrows Path et InnerWish, des groupes habituellement ancrés dans le Doom et le Power Metal, qui ont décidé de se poser et de laisser le fuzz prendre le dessus. On entend vraiment ce passé sur un morceau comme « Dead Old Tree », où le chant prend cette qualité étrangement épique, presque à la Raphael Mendes, qu'on n'attend pas dans un contexte desert rock.

The album, which just dropped via Octopus Rising (a sub-label of the heavyweights at Argonauta Records), starts off with exactly what you'd want: those massive, sun-baked riffs on "Burning Roads". But it's when they hit "The Open Wound" that things get interesting. They start messing with these "post-stoner" textures and heavier, almost progressive layers that remind me why the Greek scene is so dominant right now. It's got that raw, "live in the studio" energy they captured on their first EP, but with a lot more muscle behind it.

L'album, qui vient de sortir via Octopus Rising (un sous‑label des poids lourds d'Argonauta Records), commence exactement comme on l'espère : avec ces riffs massifs, cuits au soleil, sur « Burning Roads ». Mais c'est sur « The Open Wound » que les choses deviennent intéressantes. Ils commencent à jouer avec ces textures « post‑stoner » et des couches plus lourdes, presque progressives, qui rappellent pourquoi la scène grecque domine actuellement. Il y a cette énergie brute, « live in the studio », qu'ils avaient capturée sur leur premier EP, mais avec beaucoup plus de muscles.

It's heavy, it's dusty, and that "final twist" at the end of the ten tracks is definitely going to have the "Mothertruckers" (their words, not mine!) debating in the comments for a while. C'est lourd, poussiéreux, et ce « twist final » à la fin des dix morceaux va clairement faire débattre les « Mothertruckers » (c'est leur mot, pas le mien !) dans les commentaires pendant un moment.

I'm going to go listen to that closing track one more time; I'm still not sure if I actually caught the "twist" or if I just got hypnotized by the bass line.
