The riffs on "How’s Annie?" hit with that classic 80s crossover sting, but there’s something way more twisted going on under the surface. I was halfway through a message when the chorus kicked in, and I just... stopped. I couldn't stop grinning at the pure audacity of it.

Now, here is the crazy part: these Sydney-based thrashers managed to pack the entire surreal nightmare of Twin Peaks into a three-minute mosh pit anthem. Head In A Jar have been tearing up the Australian scene since 2011, and their third album, Unbelievable Violence, is exactly what the title promises. Recorded by Jay Whalley (Frenzal Rhomb), it’s got that raw, punchy punk energy mixed with tight, neck-snapping thrash.

Le truc de ouf : ces thrashos de Sydney ont réussi à caser tout le cauchemar surréaliste de Twin Peaks dans un hymne de moshpit de trois minutes. Head In A Jar déchire la scène australienne depuis 2011, et leur troisième album, Unbelievable Violence, tient ses promesses. Enregistré par Jay Whalley (Frenzal Rhomb), ça a cette énergie punk brute et percutante mêlée à du thrash serré qui casse la nuque.

The sound is thick, hugely nostalgic but with a sense of humor that most modern bands are too afraid to touch. I actually had to rewind the video when the lyrics "SHE’S DEAD! WRAPPED IN PLASTIC! THIS COFFEE IT’S FANTASTIC" roared out, okay, wait.. I didn't just rewind it, I sent the link to three friends immediately.

Le son est épais, énormément nostalgique mais avec un humour que la plupart des groupes modernes n'osent pas toucher. J'ai dû rembobiner la vidéo quand les paroles « SHE’S DEAD! WRAPPED IN PLASTIC! THIS COFFEE IT’S FANTASTIC » ont jailli, enfin… je ne l'ai pas juste rembobinée, j'ai envoyé le lien à trois potes immédiatement.

"Aggressive" isn't the right word. It's celebratory. It’s the kind of crossover that makes you want to stage dive into the Black Lodge. « Agressif » n'est pas le bon mot. C'est festif. C'est le genre de crossover qui donne envie de faire un stage dive dans la Black Lodge.

I had a few other tabs open to check out some tech-death releases, but I ended up closing them all just to loop "How’s Annie?" again. The way Gordy and Nick trade off those vocals while the rhythm section just pummels you is surgical. I mean, seriously, if you’re a fan of Municipal Waste or early Anthrax, this is going to hit a nerve.

J'avais d'autres onglets ouverts pour checker des sorties tech-death, mais j'ai tout fermé pour repasser « How’s Annie? » en boucle. La façon dont Gordy et Nick échangent les voix pendant que la section rythmique te tabasse, c'est chirurgical. Sérieusement, si t'es fan de Municipal Waste ou du premier Anthrax, ça va toucher un nerf.

It’s fast, it’s fun, and the "Fire Walk With Me" breakdown near the end is where the track really shows its teeth. If this is the level of violence Head In A Jar are bringing in 2026, I’m fully on board. No joke.

C'est rapide, fun, et le breakdown « Fire Walk With Me » vers la fin est là où le morceau montre vraiment les dents. Si c'est le niveau de violence que Head In A Jar apporte en 2026, j'embarque. Sans déconner.
