I'm sitting here trying to process the sonic blizzard that just tore through my room. Superior Rage has been haunting the underground since 2006, but their latest move feels less like a return and more like a rebirth. They just dropped the official music video for "Asmodeus Bacchic" from their new EP, In Memoriam, and honestly, the atmosphere is thick enough to choke on.

If you remember their earlier stuff, you'll know they've always leaned into that cold, symphonic black metal edge. But this? This is something different. By bringing in a full squad of session musicians, they've injected a pulse into the music that was missing before. It's not just synth-driven atmosphere anymore; it's got a heartbeat. A fast, aggressive, black metal heartbeat.

Si vous vous souvenez de leurs premiers trucs, vous savez qu'ils ont toujours penché vers ce côté froid et symphonique du black metal. Mais là ? C'est différent. En faisant appel à toute une équipe de musiciens de session, ils ont injecté un pouls dans la musique qui manquait avant. Ce n'est plus seulement de l'ambiance portée par les synthés ; ça a un battement de cœur. Un battement de cœur rapide, agressif, black metal.

The video follows this masked figure through what feels like a fever dream. It perfectly matches the tension in the track: this constant push and pull between cinematic symphonics and pure, unadulterated chaos. I actually had to rewind the section where the guitars kick in around the two-minute mark, just to catch my breath. Actually, "catch my breath" isn't the right way to put it: it blindsided me. La vidéo suit cette figure masquée à travers ce qui ressemble à un rêve fiévreux. Elle correspond parfaitement à la tension du morceau : ce va-et-vient constant entre les symphoniques cinématographiques et le chaos pur et simple. J'ai dû revenir en arrière au moment où les guitares démarrent vers la deuxième minute, juste pour reprendre mon souffle. En fait, « reprendre mon souffle » n'est pas le bon terme : ça m'a pris de court.

The EP itself, In Memoriam, is a hell of a statement. It's got re-recorded classics and some brand-new tracks like "The Death of the Red Dragon." It feels like the band is finally realizing the vision they've been chasing for nearly twenty years. My tea went cold while I was mesmerized by the visuals of the masked character wandering through those dark landscapes.

L'EP lui-même, In Memoriam, est une sacrée déclaration. Il contient des classiques réenregistrés et des morceaux inédits comme « The Death of the Red Dragon ». On sent que le groupe réalise enfin la vision qu'il poursuit depuis près de vingt ans. Mon thé a refroidi pendant que j'étais hypnotisé par les images du personnage masqué errant dans ces paysages sombres.

If you're into Dimmu Borgir or Old Man's Child but want something with a bit more of a raw, ritualistic soul, you need to watch this. It's a milestone for the band, and for the scene, it's a reminder that true symphonic black metal is far from dead.
