Metalcore is a genre where it's incredibly easy to drown in a sea of over-polished, sterilized productions that all sound like carbon copies of each other. But when a Helsinki-based band like Ashes of Perishing comes out of the gate with a track like "Rapture," you realize they aren't interested in just checking boxes. They're chasing something else entirely: they're chasing the Void.

What strikes me with this new single is the feeling of a true metamorphosis. The band isn't just regurgitating the recipe they used back in 2021; they've genuinely toughened up. The addition of Oskar on vocals in 2024 seems to have acted like a trigger, pushing their sound toward something far darker and more oppressive. "Rapture" isn't a ballad; it's a deep dive into a suffocating abyss where the light just doesn't reach anymore.
Ce qui me frappe avec ce nouveau single, c'est cette sensation de véritable métamorphose. Le groupe ne se contente pas de régurgiter la recette qu'ils utilisaient en 2021 ; ils ont vraiment durci le ton. L'arrivée d'Oskar au chant en 2024 semble avoir agi comme un déclencheur, poussant leur son vers quelque chose de bien plus sombre et oppressant. « Rapture » n'est pas une ballade ; c'est une plongée profonde dans un abîme suffocant où la lumière ne pénètre plus.
Musically, you can tell that Valtteri (composition) and Oskar (lyrics) were gunning for visceral despair. The production doesn't care about being "pretty": it wants to be massive. Miro Kiiski's mastering finally gives this evolution the weight it deserves: it's heavy, it's pitch-black, and it perfectly sets the stage for their baptism of fire this summer at the Tuska Festival. Playing on home turf at one of Finland's most demanding festivals is the ultimate test, and "Rapture" feels like the exact weapon they need for that kind of stage.
Musicalement, on sent que Valtteri (composition) et Oskar (paroles) visaient un désespoir viscéral. La production ne cherche pas à être « jolie » : elle veut être massive. Le mastering de Miro Kiiski donne enfin à cette évolution le poids qu'elle mérite : c'est lourd, c'est noir comme l'encre, et cela prépare parfaitement le terrain pour leur baptême du feu cet été au Tuska Festival. Jouer à domicile sur l'un des festivals les plus exigeants de Finlande est le test ultime, et « Rapture » ressemble à l'arme idéale pour ce genre de scène.
If you're the type of listener who prefers raw, uncompromising metalcore over radio-friendly choruses, Ashes of Perishing is a band you need to watch. They aren't here to just "emerge", they're here to burn everything down.
