Thirty years after their first demo, Aurora Borealis is still standing, and they aren't showing a single sign of slowing down. The US black/death metal veterans have just unleashed "Brimstone Rain," the second single from their upcoming tenth studio album, Disillusioned By The Illusion, and it is a pure, high-velocity assault.

What's interesting about this new record, dropping April 24, 2026, via Non Serviam Records, is that Ron Vento and the guys have stepped away from the concept-heavy themes of the past. Instead, they've let each of the 11 tracks stand on its own. It's 46 minutes of focused aggression, technical shredding, and that cold, dark atmosphere that has been their signature since the mid-90s.

I've been blasting "Brimstone Rain", and the drum work from Mark Green is absolutely relentless ; it just never lets up. There's a certain freedom in the songwriting this time around that makes the technical parts hit even harder. This is definitely going to be one of the benchmark extreme metal albums of 2026. \m/
J'ai écouté « Brimstone Rain » à fond, et le travail de batterie de Mark Green est absolument implacable ; il ne faiblit jamais. Il y a une certaine liberté dans l'écriture cette fois‑ci qui rend les parties techniques encore plus percutantes. Ce sera certainement l'un des albums de metal extrême de référence de 2026. \m/
