When you see a band name pop up after thirty years, your first instinct is to roll your eyes. It's usually a nostalgia cash-grab, or just guys trying to relive their glory days without the energy to back it up. But then you've got CREMATE, who decided to crawl out of the crypt, take their 1993 demos, and actually do something with them instead of just playing them the same way they did in the 90s.

Quand on voit un nom de groupe ressurgir après trente ans, la première réaction est souvent de lever les yeux au ciel. C'est généralement un appel au fric nostalgique, ou des mecs qui essaient de revivre leurs heures de gloire sans l'énergie derrière. Mais ensuite on tombe sur CREMATE, qui a décidé de sortir de la crypte, de reprendre ses démos de 1993 et d'en faire quelque chose, plutôt que de les jouer comme dans les années 90.

Christos (vocals/bass) is the architect behind this comeback, and he's clearly not interested in just being a tribute act to his own past. He's taken that raw Death/Thrash aggression from the End of Time demo and completely re-engineered it. He's slapped synths and samples on it, which, frankly, could have been a disaster, but it actually works. It doesn't bury the aggression; it gives it this dark, cinematic weight that makes the brutality feel sharper, not softer.

Christos (chant/basse) est l'architecte de ce comeback, et il ne veut clairement pas se contenter d'être un groupe hommage à son propre passé. Il a repris l'agression brute Death/Thrash de la démo End of Time et l'a complètement réinventée. Il y a ajouté des synthés et des samples, ce qui aurait pu être un désastre, mais ça fonctionne. Ça n'enterre pas l'agression ; ça lui donne ce poids sombre et cinématographique qui rend la brutalité plus tranchante, pas plus douce.

I've been listening to their new lyric video for "Human," and you can hear the difference. It's not "old school" for the sake of being old school. It's a modern sonic layer on a foundation that clearly knows how to hit hard.

J'ai écouté leur nouvelle lyric video pour « Human », et on entend la différence. Ce n'est pas « old school » pour faire old school. C'est une couche sonore moderne sur une base qui sait clairement envoyer du lourd.

They brought in some killer session musicians, like Akis Pastras, who handled the recording and mixing, to flesh out the sound, and you can tell they weren't cutting corners. Having George Nerantzis on mastering duties (the guy has worked with Rotting Christ and Abbath, so he knows a thing or two about atmosphere) really gives it that polished, crushing finish.

Ils ont fait appel à des musiciens de session tueurs, comme Akis Pastras, qui s'est occupé de l'enregistrement et du mixage, pour étoffer le son, et on sent qu'ils n'ont pas lésiné sur les moyens. Avoir George Nerantzis au mastering (le type a travaillé avec Rotting Christ et Abbath, donc il s'y connaît en atmosphère) donne vraiment cette finition polie et écrasante.

What I find refreshing here is that CREMATE isn't trying to pretend it's still 1993. It's about taking those roots, the experience and the passion, and seeing what that sound looks like in 2026. If you're into the old-school death/thrash vibe but you're tired of bands that refuse to evolve, this EP, Ready to Fight, is worth your time.

Ce que je trouve rafraîchissant ici, c'est que CREMATE n'essaie pas de prétendre qu'on est encore en 1993. Il s'agit de prendre ces racines, l'expérience et la passion, et de voir à quoi ressemble ce son en 2026. Si vous aimez l'ambiance death/thrash old-school mais que vous en avez marre des groupes qui refusent d'évoluer, cet EP, Ready to Fight, mérite votre temps.

It's not a comeback project; it's a re-imagining.

Ce n'est pas un projet de retour ; c'est une réinvention.
