METAL DELUXE – DIX ANS DE FURIE STOCKHOLMOISE

Ten years. That's how long we had to wait for these Stockholm veterans to crawl out of the basement. Sterbhaus finally dropped their third full-length, Next Akin to Chaos, this past November via Killhead, and man, it feels like they've been holding in a lot of aggression. After they "sort of" announced they were quitting back in 2019, I honestly didn't think we'd see another studio record.
Dix ans. C'est le temps qu'il nous a fallu attendre pour que ces vétérans de Stockholm sortent de leur sous-sol. Sterbhaus a enfin sorti son troisième album, Next Akin to Chaos, en novembre dernier via Killhead, et putain, on sent qu'ils ont retenu pas mal d'agressivité. Après avoir « plus ou moins » annoncé qu'ils arrêtaient en 2019, je ne pensais honnêtement pas qu'on reverrait un album studio.

The trio, Marcus Hammarström, Jimmy Ahovalli, and Erik Röjås, call their style "Metal Deluxe." It's basically a massive, loud pile of Death, Thrash, and Black metal, all held together by a twisted sense of humor. I mean, with track titles like "Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus have a Sword Fight," you know these guys aren't interested in being "polite."
Le trio, Marcus Hammarström, Jimmy Ahovalli et Erik Röjås, appelle son style « Metal Deluxe ». C'est essentiellement un tas massif et bruyant de Death, Thrash et Black metal, le tout maintenu par un sens de l'humour tordu. Avec des titres comme « Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus have a Sword Fight », on comprend vite que ces gars n'ont pas l'intention d'être « polis ».
This band has been through the ringer: censored videos, tours falling apart, and enough personal drama to kill most projects. Marcus actually walked away from Shining just to make sure this album finally happened. You can tell. It's got that desperate, high-stakes energy of a band that's either starting a new chapter or going out in a blaze of glory. Either way, it's heavy as hell and doesn't apologize for any of it.
Ce groupe en a vu de toutes les couleurs : vidéos censurées, tournées qui s'effondrent, et assez de drames personnels pour tuer n'importe quel projet. Marcus a même quitté Shining pour que cet album voie enfin le jour. Ça s'entend. Il y a cette énergie désespérée et à haut risque d'un groupe qui soit commence un nouveau chapitre, soit part en fumée. Dans les deux cas, c'est lourd comme l'enfer et ça ne s'excuse de rien.

I've been blasting "Wrecking the World" on repeat today. There's this specific, nasty groove in the middle of the track that just makes you want to break something. It's classic Sterbhaus: rough around the edges, a bit mean, and completely unpredictable. Definitely a record that deserves to be played loud. \m/
J'ai écouté « Wrecking the World » en boucle aujourd'hui. Il y a ce groove spécifique, sale au milieu du morceau, qui donne envie de casser quelque chose. C'est du Sterbhaus classique : brut sur les bords, un peu méchant, et complètement imprévisible. Un album qui mérite d'être écouté très fort. \m/
