Norway's Slaamaskin just dropped their new EP Endevendt digitally on April 2nd, and honestly, it's exactly the kind of heavy, rhythmic gut-punch I needed this week. If you're a vinyl nerd, mark April 11th on your calendar: They're putting out a physical LP that includes a remastered version of their 2016 EP on the B-side. It's basically a full history lesson of the band on one piece of wax.

Les norvégiens de Slaamaskin viennent de sortir leur nouvel EP Endevendt en digital le 2 avril, et honnêtement, c'est exactement le coup de poing lourd et rythmique dont j'avais besoin cette semaine. Si vous êtes un fan de vinyle, notez le 11 avril : ils sortent un LP physique qui inclut une version remasterisée de leur EP de 2016 sur la face B. C'est quasiment une leçon d'histoire complète du groupe sur un seul disque.

I've been spinning "Stridshaud", the lead single, and there's something about that specific 90s crossover vibe they nail. It's that perfect, messy middle ground where hardcore grit meets metal precision. They aren't trying to be "progressive" or "fancy" here; it's direct, riff-heavy, and built for a sweaty basement show.

J'ai tourné « Stridshaud », le premier single, et il y a cette vibe crossover des années 90 qu'ils maîtrisent parfaitement. C'est ce terrain vague parfait où la rugosité du hardcore rencontre la précision du metal. Ils n'essaient pas d'être « progressifs » ou « sophistiqués » ; c'est direct, chargé de riffs, et fait pour un concert moite en sous‑sol.

The band describes these tracks as a reaction to how insane the world is right now, and you can feel that frustration in the delivery. It's physical music. I actually had to turn it down a notch while working because the bass tone on "Hoggspekker" was literally rattling the pens off my desk. It's got that same raw energy that earned their last record, Trollveggen, those killer reviews in Scream and Metalized. Le groupe décrit ces morceaux comme une réaction à la folie du monde actuel, et on sent cette frustration dans l'interprétation. C'est de la musique physique. J'ai dû baisser d'un cran en travaillant parce que le son de la basse sur « Hoggspekker » faisait littéralement trembler les stylos sur mon bureau. Il y a cette même énergie brute qui a valu à leur dernier album, Trollveggen, des critiques tueuses dans Scream et Metalized.

With Yorick Sabri Gontarek handling their new video, Slaamaskin is proving they're one of the most consistent heavy acts coming out of Norway lately. They've kept the sound tight, organic, and, most importantly, loud as hell.

I'm really looking forward to hearing that 2016 remaster on the B-side of the vinyl. There's a track called "Slamsuger" on there that I remember being absolutely feral back in the day ; I want to see how much more damage it does with a modern polish. \m/
