DERBY ROCKERS WHO REFUSE TO GROW UP
Look, my speakers are usually clogged with the sound of grinding bones, so turning on Beggars Bliss felt like accidentally walking into a brightly lit pub. They are from Derby, they started in 2024, and they apparently have a rule that if a song isn't fun, they won't play it. Sounds like a recipe for something annoying, right?
Mes enceintes sont d'habitude obstruées par des sons d'os broyés, alors lancer Beggars Bliss m'a donné l'impression de tomber par hasard dans un pub bien éclairé. Ils viennent de Derby, ont commencé en 2024, et ont apparemment une règle : si un morceau n'est pas amusant, ils ne le jouent pas. Ça a l'air d'une recette pour quelque chose d'agaçant, non ?
Surprisingly, it isn't. The main reason this debut album works is that they actually let the keyboard player do something besides hide in the corner. She keeps trading licks back and forth with the guitarist, dragging these bouncy, danceable grooves along with them. It's very Midlands, very loud, and completely obsessed with three-part vocal harmonies that make the whole thing sound like a drunken singalong at 2 AM.
Étonnamment, ce ne l'est pas. La raison principale pour laquelle ce premier album fonctionne, c'est qu'ils laissent enfin le claviériste faire autre chose que se cacher dans un coin. Elle échange des riffs avec le guitariste, entraînant avec eux des grooves dansants et rebondissants. C'est très typé Midlands, très fort, et complètement obsédé par des harmonies vocales à trois voix qui donnent à l'ensemble l'impression d'une beuverie à 2 heures du matin.
They spent 2025 driving around places like Manchester and playing festivals like Off The Tracks, and you can hear that asphalt grit in the recording. The tracks are stupidly catchy. You hear a chorus once, you hate yourself for liking it, and then you're shouting the hook when it repeats. It's rock and roll stripped of the usual boring guitar-god posturing. It's just a band from Derby playing like their lives depend on making you sweat.
Ils ont passé 2025 à rouler vers Manchester et à jouer dans des festivals comme Off The Tracks, et on entend cette rugosité de l'asphalte dans l'enregistrement. Les morceaux sont d'un accrocheur ridicule. On entend un refrain une fois, on se déteste d'aimer ça, et puis on hurle le hook quand il revient. C'est du rock'n'roll débarrassé des poses ennuyeuses de dieu de la guitare. C'est juste un groupe de Derby qui joue comme si leur vie dépendait de votre transpiration.
