RED IS A BAD DREAM

Ersedu took four years to make this instead of one. No prizes for guessing why. They're from Ukraine, and the war completely bled into this EP, GORE. It came out on May 19th. It's supposed to be the first part of a series about colors, starting with red. Red for blood, red for sacrifice, red for war. Given where they're writing this from, that's not some abstract art-school concept. It cuts straight to the bone.
Ersedu a mis quatre ans à faire ça au lieu d'un. Pas besoin de deviner pourquoi. Ils sont ukrainiens, et la guerre a complètement imprégné cet EP, GORE. Il est sorti le 19 mai. C'est censé être la première partie d'une série sur les couleurs, en commençant par le rouge. Rouge pour le sang, rouge pour le sacrifice, rouge pour la guerre. Vu d'où ils écrivent, ce n'est pas un concept abstrait d'école d'art. Ça va droit à l'os.
They call themselves "cinematic symphonic death metal." I usually hate that term, but the orchestral arrangements here actually have some weight. Think Septicflesh or Dimmu Borgir trying to write like Howard Shore or Jerry Goldsmith. It's theatrical, yeah. But it's heavy as hell. Fascination Street Studios handled the mix and master, so it has that massive, polished wallop.
Ils se qualifient de « death metal symphonique cinématographique ». D'habitude je déteste ce terme, mais les arrangements orchestraux ont ici du poids. Imaginez Septicflesh ou Dimmu Borgir qui essaient d'écrire comme Howard Shore ou Jerry Goldsmith. C'est théâtral, oui. Mais c'est lourd comme l'enfer. Fascination Street Studios s'est occupé du mix et du mastering, donc ça a cet impact massif et poli.
There are only four tracks. "G O D O F W A R," "O F F E R I N G," "R E A P S O U L S," and "E R O S." Spell it out and it makes an acronym. Cute trick, but the music is too grim for gimmicks. "Eros" and "Offering" are already floating around online. "Eros" is weird: it feels like a nightmare that changes shape every two minutes. It kinda lacks a straightforward groove to headbang to, which annoyed me at first. But it leaves you completely gasping for air.
Il n'y a que quatre morceaux. « G O D O F W A R », « O F F E R I N G », « R E A P S O U L S » et « E R O S ». Épeler le tout donne un acronyme. Astuce sympa, mais la musique est trop sinistre pour les gimmicks. « Eros » et « Offering » circulent déjà en ligne. « Eros » est étrange : on dirait un cauchemar qui change de forme toutes les deux minutes. Ça manque un peu de groove évident pour headbanguer, ce qui m'a agacé au début. Mais ça vous laisse complètement à court de souffle.
They also made a whole visual artbook to go with it, featuring their Mother Nature mascot. Whatever. The music does the talking. It's a bitter, chaotic listen, and you can hear the sheer physical toll it took just to get these songs recorded.
Ils ont aussi fait tout un artbook visuel pour l'accompagner, avec leur mascotte Mère Nature. Peu importe. La musique parle d'elle‑même. C'est une écoute amère et chaotique, et on entend le pur effort physique qu'il a fallu pour enregistrer ces chansons.
