Iron Kingdom are hitting their 15th anniversary, which makes me feel incredibly old. To celebrate, these Vancouver guys are dropping their sixth album, Shadows and Dust, on June 6th, 2026. They're putting it out via Steel Shark Records. Apparently, they chose the date because it's the anniversary of D-Day. A bit intense, but whatever floats your boat.

Iron Kingdom fête ses 15 ans, ce qui me fait me sentir incroyablement vieux. Pour célébrer, ces gars de Vancouver sortent leur sixième album, Shadows and Dust, le 6 juin 2026. Ils le publient via Steel Shark Records. Apparemment, ils ont choisi cette date car c'est l'anniversaire du Débarquement. Un peu intense, mais chacun ses goûts.

The new single is called "Deadhouse Gates," following up on "Defenders" and "Blood and Steel." Bassist Leighton Holmes says the track is completely inspired by Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen. Some high fantasy stuff about a portal house and people trying to become gods. Frontman Chris Osterman just calls it a "total rock n' roll song." I lean more towards Chris's description. It's got some decent leads and dual-guitar work from him and Megan Merrick, but let's be honest, it's mostly just a straightforward, catchy headbanger. It doesn't break new ground.

Le nouveau single s'appelle « Deadhouse Gates », après « Defenders » et « Blood and Steel ». Le bassiste Leighton Holmes dit que le morceau est entièrement inspiré par Le Livre des Martyrs de Steven Erikson. Un truc de high fantasy avec une maison-portail et des gens qui essaient de devenir des dieux. Le chanteur Chris Osterman appelle ça simplement une « chanson rock'n'roll totale ». Je penche plutôt pour la description de Chris. Il y a quelques bons leads et un travail à deux guitares de sa part et de Megan Merrick, mais soyons honnêtes, c'est avant tout un headbanger simple et accrocheur. Ça ne révolutionne rien.

They recorded the whole thing in their home studio. Max Friesen's drums sound fine, but the mix is a little safe. The band is hitting the road for a massive tour across Canada, hitting spots like the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver, Armstrong Metal Fest, and Loud As Hell Open Air. Honestly, checking out thirty-plus tour dates makes my back hurt just looking at it. They've been grinding since 2011 doing this exact NWOBHM-worship style. If you want something entirely groundbreaking, this isn't it. But if you want honest, loud Canadian metal to drink a beer to, Iron Kingdom delivers. Steel Shark is even doing a limited double-CD with a best-of disc for the EU market. Worth a look if you're a collector.

Ils ont tout enregistré dans leur home studio. La batterie de Max Friesen sonne correctement, mais le mixage est un peu trop propre. Le groupe part en tournée massive à travers le Canada, avec des dates comme le Rickshaw Theatre à Vancouver, l'Armstrong Metal Fest et le Loud As Hell Open Air. Honnêtement, regarder la trentaine de dates me fait déjà mal au dos. Ils font ce style d'hommage à la NWOBHM depuis 2011. Si vous voulez quelque chose de révolutionnaire, ce n'est pas ça. Mais si vous voulez du metal canadien honnête et bruyant pour boire une bière, Iron Kingdom est là. Steel Shark sort même un double CD limité avec une compilation des meilleurs morceaux pour le marché européen. À voir si vous êtes collectionneur.
