An Italian death metal band singing entirely in the Venetian dialect is definitely not on my usual bingo card. Membrance just dropped Resa Marciana via Ad Noctem Records, and it's a weirdly compelling listen. They're pulling from that classic, buzzy Stockholm death metal sound, but they shove a bunch of thrash groove and cold Norwegian black metal ideas into the blender too.
Un groupe italien de death metal chantant entièrement en dialecte vénitien, ce n'est vraiment pas ce à quoi je m'attendais. Membrance vient de sortir Resa Marciana via Ad Noctem Records, et c'est une écoute étrangement captivante. Ils s'inspirent du son death metal suédois classique et baveux, mais ils ajoutent aussi du groove thrash et des idées black metal norvégiennes dans le mélange.
The whole thing is mastermind Davide Lazzarini's baby: he wrote the music and lyrics, save for the final track which is an old Venetian folk arrangement. Recording this must have been a bit of a slog, since they tracked it across Venice and Rome through the spring and summer of 2025. Stefano Morabito mixed and mastered it at 16th Cellar Studio in Rome, and the production actually keeps the grime intact without sounding like total mud.

L'enregistrement a dû être un peu pénible, puisqu'ils ont enregistré entre Venise et Rome au printemps et à l'été 2025. Stefano Morabito a mixé et masterisé au 16th Cellar Studio à Rome, et la production conserve la crasse sans devenir totalement brouillonne.
Lyrically, it's all about disturbing lagoon legends, local islands, and how messed up Venice is right now. The cover art by Sheila Franco shows a distorted, sinking lion, which tells you exactly where their heads are at. Musically, it's aggressive. Tracks like "Batipai" and "Turistificai" just cut right through. Singing in dialect could have been a total gimmick, but the harsh vocals make it sound incredibly abrasive and ancient. Not sure why, but the regional spite makes the riffs hit harder. It just works.
Lyriquement, il s'agit de légendes locales de la lagune, d'îles et de l'état désastreux de Venise aujourd'hui. La pochette de Sheila Franco représente un lion déformé et qui coule, ce qui indique clairement leurs préoccupations. Musicalement, c'est agressif. Des morceaux comme « Batipai » et « Turistificai » tranchent net. Chanter en dialecte aurait pu être un simple gadget, mais le chant harsh le rend incroyablement abrasif et ancien. Je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais cette rancœur régionale rend les riffs plus percutants. Ça fonctionne.
It's a bit messy when the black metal parts clash with the heavy groove, but it keeps you listening. If you want something that isn't the usual generic American gore-worship, go check their Facebook or Instagram and spin the record.
C'est un peu brouillon quand les parties black metal se heurtent au groove lourd, mais ça vous tient en haleine. Si vous voulez quelque chose qui ne soit pas l'habituelle glorification générique du gore à l'américaine, allez voir leur Facebook ou Instagram et écoutez le disque.
