New Release: Beyond The Styx

DELPHINE CHEEZY CRUST AND THAT DUTCH STUDIO

Daan Nieboer. That's the producer name in the credits for Beyond The Styx's fourth record, DIVID. A metallic hardcore quintet from Tours, France, driving all the way up to a Dutch village called Luttenberg just to track ten songs at Cornerstone Audio.

The album came out on May 08 via Innerstrength Records, and looking through the track listing, track five immediately stops you. "Flowerviolence." It features guest vocals from Delphine from Sisterhood Issues, but the credits explicitly list her as "Delphine Cheezy Crust." That is a brilliant guest credit. No context, no explanation, just Cheezy Crust written on a hardcore record layout.

L'album est sorti le 8 mai via Innerstrength Records, et en regardant la tracklist, le cinquième morceau vous arrête immédiatement. « Flowerviolence ». Il contient des voix invitées de Delphine de Sisterhood Issues, mais les crédits la mentionnent explicitement comme « Delphine Cheezy Crust ». C'est un crédit d'invité génial. Pas de contexte, pas d'explication, juste Cheezy Crust écrit sur la pochette d'un disque hardcore.

The promo notes describe the album as having "frequent, almost unearthly breakdowns that nevertheless feel natural." That is a complete marketing contradiction. How can a breakdown be unearthly and natural at the same time? But then on "Deadlock V," David's rhythmic guitar shifts from a fast, stab-frenzy metal swagger straight into a punishing, slow, physical thud. The snarling attack stays way closer to raw hardcore punk than thrash, but there is a menacing darkness dragging it down.

Les notes promo décrivent l'album comme ayant des « breakdowns fréquents, presque surnaturels mais qui semblent pourtant naturels ». C'est une contradiction marketing totale. Comment un breakdown peut-il être surnaturel et naturel à la fois ? Mais ensuite, sur « Deadlock V », la guitare rythmique de David passe d'une dégaine métallique rapide et frénétique à un martèlement physique, lent et punitif. L'attaque hargneuse reste bien plus proche du hardcore punk brut que du thrash, mais une obscurité menaçante la tire vers le bas.

Maxime Hillairaud shot the live photo for 2026, right as the tour kicked off at Be'Horns Fest in Barinque. I looked up Barinque out of curiosity. It's a tiny place in the southwest. Not exactly the first spot you'd expect a massive European hardcore onslaught to start their road trip.

Pas vraiment le premier endroit où l'on s'attend à voir une déferlante hardcore européenne commencer son road trip.
