FILTHY, FUZZ‑DRENCHED DOOM WITH AN AGGRESSIVE EDGE FROM GERMANY
Look, when a band names themselves WeedWizard and packs their press sheet with references to fuzz, pipe weed, and sludge, you pretty much know what territory you're stepping into before pressing play. My initial thought was that I'd probably hear a fun, standard stoner doom record that plays it safe with the usual Sabbath and Bongzilla tropes.

Ma première pensée a été que j'allais probablement entendre un album de stoner doom sympa et standard qui joue la sécurité avec les tropes habituels de Sabbath et Bongzilla.
I'll admit, during the first couple of tracks like "Down" and "Trouble A.D.", I was mostly just enjoying the thick, fuzz‑heavy sound without expecting too many surprises. But as the 44 minutes rolled on, I realized there's a lot more grit and bite here than just standard groove‑heavy doom. These guys out of Germany have been honing their sound for over a decade, and you can tell: the weight on Blood Cathedral feels genuinely heavy, pulling in raw sludge energy reminiscent of Crowbar or early Down.
J'avoue, pendant les deux premiers morceaux comme « Down » et « Trouble A.D. », j'appréciais surtout le son épais et fuzz‑lourd sans m'attendre à trop de surprises. Mais au fil des 44 minutes, j'ai réalisé qu'il y a beaucoup plus de grain et de mordant ici qu'un simple doom lourd et groovy. Ces gars d'Allemagne peaufinent leur son depuis plus d'une décennie, et on le sent : le poids sur Blood Cathedral semble véritablement lourd, puisant dans l'énergie brute du sludge rappelant Crowbar ou les premiers Down.
What really caught me around the middle of the album, especially on tracks like "Sunslayer" and "Isolation", was how the riffs just lock into these slow, relentless grooves that never feel boring or stretched out for no reason. The band tackles real‑world topics like anti‑fascism and criticism of organized religion, giving the lyrics an aggressive edge that fits the dirty, organic production perfectly. By the time "(Outro) The Sadness" faded out, I was just sitting there, letting my ears ring. No fluff, no filler, just 44 minutes of filthy, honest doom that hits right where it should.
Ce qui m'a vraiment accroché au milieu de l'album, surtout sur des morceaux comme « Sunslayer » et « Isolation », c'est la façon dont les riffs s'installent dans ces grooves lents et implacables qui ne semblent jamais ennuyeux ou étirés sans raison. Le groupe aborde des sujets du monde réel comme l'antifascisme et la critique des religions organisées, donnant aux paroles un côté agressif qui correspond parfaitement à la production sale et organique. Quand « (Outro) The Sadness » s'est éteint, je suis resté là, à laisser mes oreilles bourdonner. Pas de fioritures, pas de remplissage, juste 44 minutes de doom sale et honnête qui frappe là où il faut.
If you're in the mood for pure, fuzz‑drenched heaviness with zero slick modern tricks, Blood Cathedral is definitely worth spending some time with.
