FINNISH MELODIC DEATH METAL DUO TAKES A PLAYFUL, CATCHY DETOUR WITH A SURPRISING HOOK
Finnish melodic death metal duo Magnadur are back with "Eat the Bat", and I'll admit, that title had me wondering what the hell I was about to hear. Tomi Perrakoski handles vocals and lyrics, with Derek Wolfstein taking care of guitars and drums, and while the project normally sits comfortably in Scandinavian melodeath territory, this new single takes a noticeably more playful route. The heavy side is still there. The guitars have plenty of bite, the vocals stay firmly in harsh territory, but the song doesn't seem interested in making everything as complicated as possible. Instead, Magnadur build the track around a surprisingly simple chorus that gets stuck in your head much faster than it probably should. There are also a few weird little touches buried in the arrangement that give the whole thing a lighter feel without taking away the weight of the riffs.
Le duo finlandais de melodic death metal Magnadur est de retour avec « Eat the Bat », et j'avoue que ce titre m'a fait me demander ce que j'allais bien pouvoir entendre. Tomi Perrakoski s'occupe du chant et des paroles, Derek Wolfstein des guitares et de la batterie, et alors que le projet se situe généralement dans le territoire du melodeath scandinave, ce nouveau single emprunte une voie nettement plus ludique. Le côté heavy est toujours là. Les guitares ont du mordant, les voix restent fermement dans le territoire agressif, mais la chanson ne semble pas intéressée par le fait de tout rendre aussi compliqué que possible. À la place, Magnadur construit le morceau autour d'un refrain étonnamment simple qui vous reste en tête beaucoup plus vite qu'il ne le devrait. Il y a aussi quelques petites touches étranges cachées dans l'arrangement qui donnent à l'ensemble un côté plus léger sans enlever le poids des riffs.

I wasn't expecting "Eat the Bat" to be quite this catchy. With a title like that, I was half‑expecting something completely unhinged. It's actually much more controlled, and that contrast works in its favor. At just over three minutes, the song gets in, does its thing and gets out before the joke wears thin. It's a different side of Magnadur, less focused on complexity and more interested in having a good time with a solid hook. If you like your melodic death metal with some personality and don't mind a band stepping outside the usual formula once in a while, "Eat the Bat" is definitely worth checking out.
Je ne m'attendais pas à ce que « Eat the Bat » soit aussi accrocheur. Avec un titre comme celui‑là, je m'attendais à moitié à quelque chose de complètement déjanté. C'est en fait beaucoup plus contrôlé, et ce contraste joue en sa faveur. Avec un peu plus de trois minutes, la chanson entre, fait son affaire et sort avant que la blague ne s'épuise. C'est un côté différent de Magnadur, moins concentré sur la complexité et plus intéressé par le fait de passer un bon moment avec un refrain solide. Si vous aimez votre melodic death metal avec un peu de personnalité et que cela ne vous dérange pas qu'un groupe sorte des sentiers battus de temps en temps, « Eat the Bat » mérite vraiment d'être écouté.
