MONTREAL TRIO DELIVERS A THRASHING, GROOVE‑LADEN DEBUT EP WITH RAW TEETH
When three guys who grew up together in Montreal decide to drop their hard rock project to build something heavier, there's always a risk it'll sound like a forced, try‑hard pivot. But Night Terror shuts that down pretty fast. Right from "Hysteria", you're hit with sirens and helicopter noise that honestly feel a bit cheesy at first, but the moment the main groove kicks in, you stop caring. The mix doesn't try to sanitize anything: it's thick, noisy, and you can tell someone who actually knows heavy music sat behind the desk. What surprised me most is how tight the drums are; Nico‑Angelo Sisti drives the tempo with a frantic energy that keeps the tracks from dragging under all that low‑end weight.
Quand trois gars qui ont grandi ensemble à Montréal décident d'abandonner leur projet hard rock pour construire quelque chose de plus lourd, il y a toujours un risque que cela sonne comme un virage forcé et trop volontaire. Mais Night Terror éteint cette inquiétude assez rapidement. Dès « Hysteria », on est frappé par des sirènes et des bruits d'hélicoptère qui semblent un peu ringards au début, mais dès que le groove principal s'installe, on arrête de s'en soucier. Le mix n'essaie pas de tout nettoyer : il est épais, bruyant, et on sent que quelqu'un qui connaît vraiment la musique heavy était derrière la console. Ce qui m'a le plus surpris, c'est à quel point la batterie est serrée ; Nico‑Angelo Sisti mène le tempo avec une énergie frénétique qui empêche les morceaux de traîner sous tout ce poids dans les graves.

The EP hits its stride on "Stitches" and "Blue Dream", where things get messier, darker, and much more claustrophobic. By the time the title track rolls around, it almost feels like the band is pushing themselves into a corner just to see how loud they can break out. The instrumental closer "So It Goes" feels a bit abrupt after all that noise, but maybe that's the point. After the final notes cut out, I had to take a second to let my ears recover from that constant low‑end pressure. It's rough around the edges, but as far as debut releases go, OMBRA definitely brought enough teeth to make you pay attention.
L'EP trouve son rythme sur « Stitches » et « Blue Dream », où les choses deviennent plus bordéliques, plus sombres et beaucoup plus claustrophobes. Quand le morceau éponyme arrive, on a presque l'impression que le groupe se pousse dans un coin juste pour voir à quel point ils peuvent sortir en faisant du bruit. Le morceau instrumental de clôture « So It Goes » semble un peu abrupt après tout ce bruit, mais c'est peut‑être le but. Après que les dernières notes se sont éteintes, j'ai dû prendre une seconde pour laisser mes oreilles récupérer de cette pression constante dans les graves. C'est brut sur les bords, mais pour une première sortie, OMBRA a définitivement apporté assez de mordant pour vous faire prêter attention.
