New Release: Paradogmata - "Necrosian Tastings"
NORWEGIAN OUTFIT BLENDS MELODIC DEATH, THRASH, BLACK & FOLK INTO A SURPRISINGLY VERSATILE EP
Norwegian outfit Paradogmata have been expanding their horizon since starting out in Trondheim back in 2018, and this four‑track EP (five with bonus) Necrosian Tastings acts as a very interesting preview for their next full‑length planned for 2027. Instead of locking themselves into a single style, they blend melodic death, thrash, black metal, and folk elements into something surprisingly versatile.
Le groupe norvégien Paradogmata élargit ses horizons depuis ses débuts à Trondheim en 2018, et cet EP de quatre titres (cinq avec le bonus) Necrosian Tastings constitue un aperçu très intéressant de leur prochain album prévu pour 2027. Au lieu de s'enfermer dans un seul style, ils mélangent death mélodique, thrash, black metal et éléments folkloriques dans quelque chose d'étonnamment polyvalent.
"Kråkevisa (Kneippversjon)"
What I didn't expect was how naturally they shift gears between songs without breaking the flow. "Leave the Crippled Behind" kicks off with a sharp melodic death/thrash attack before suddenly dropping into a heavy, suffocating doom passage right in the middle, only to charge forward again. Then "Maladieu" slows things down into a mid‑tempo groove driven by twin‑lead guitar melodies; after the aggression of the opening, the atmosphere suddenly becomes darker, almost melancholic. For a moment, the EP stops attacking and starts haunting.
Ce à quoi je ne m'attendais pas, c'est la façon dont ils changent naturellement de vitesse entre les chansons sans casser le flux. « Leave the Crippled Behind » démarre avec une attaque death/thrash mélodique tranchante avant de plonger soudainement dans un passage doom lourd et suffocant au milieu, pour ensuite repartir de l'avant. Puis « Maladieu » ralentit le rythme dans un groove mid‑tempo porté par des mélodies à deux guitares principales ; après l'agression du début, l'atmosphère devient soudainement plus sombre, presque mélancolique. Pendant un moment, l'EP cesse d'attaquer et commence à hanter.
The biggest surprise comes from how they handle "Kråkevisa". The "Kneippversjon" strips away all traditional folk flourishes in favor of a harsh, cold Norwegian black metal interpretation, while the "Folkesangversjon" brings in the Hardanger fiddle and violin (thanks to guest musician Sareeta) for a full folk experience. The contrast between the two versions is striking, and it shows a band that isn't afraid to experiment with its own material. Halfway through the EP, something clicked. Paradogmata are building momentum with a very broad toolkit, and this varied, unpredictable teaser leaves you genuinely curious to see how all these pieces will fit together on a full album.
La plus grande surprise vient de la façon dont ils traitent « Kråkevisa ». La « Kneippversjon » supprime tous les ornements folkloriques traditionnels au profit d'une interprétation black metal norvégienne dure et froide, tandis que la « Folkesangversjon » fait entrer le Hardanger fiddle et le violon (grâce à la musicienne invitée Sareeta) pour une expérience folk complète. Le contraste entre les deux versions est frappant, et cela montre un groupe qui n'a pas peur d'expérimenter avec son propre matériel. À la moitié de l'EP, quelque chose a fait tilt. Paradogmata construit son élan avec une boîte à outils très large, et cet aperçu varié et imprévisible vous laisse vraiment curieux de voir comment toutes ces pièces s'assembleront sur un album complet.
