Review: Godfall - "Default" (Single)
CALGARY ALTERNATIVE METAL UNIT DROPS A LEAN, DIRECT SINGLE AHEAD OF WESTERN CANADIAN TOUR DATES
Calgary five‑piece Godfall have dropped their new single "Default," rolling it out alongside a run of Western Canadian tour dates this September. Built on a theme of daily burnout and living life on autopilot, the track sees the band pushing their blend of alternative metal and modern metalcore. Omer Khan's opening riff sets a heavy, metallic pace right out of the gate, giving the song a solid weight before the vocal layers take over. I was honestly expecting the clean hooks to soften the track too much, but the momentum holds up.

Je m'attendais honnêtement à ce que les refrains clairs adoucissent trop le morceau, mais l'élan tient.

The dual vocal dynamic between Karina Khristova and Abel Boban is what keeps it interesting. Instead of falling into a standard clean‑verse/heavy‑chorus routine, Boban's aggressive growls interject at key moments to keep the tension high, making Khristova's melodic lines hit with far more impact. Supported by a tight rhythm section, the song builds toward a mid‑section break that gets straight to the point without dragging. It's a lean, direct track, and easily the most cohesive thing I've heard from them so far.
La dynamique vocale à deux voix entre Karina Khristova et Abel Boban est ce qui rend le morceau intéressant. Au lieu de tomber dans une routine standard couplet clair/refrain lourd, les growls agressifs de Boban interviennent à des moments clés pour maintenir la tension, donnant aux lignes mélodiques de Khristova beaucoup plus d'impact. Soutenu par une section rythmique serrée, le morceau construit une pause médiane qui va droit au but sans traîner. C'est un morceau concis et direct, et sans doute le plus cohérent que j'ai entendu d'eux jusqu'à présent.
