BANGALORE TECH DEATH QUARTET RETURNS AFTER A DECADE WITH A FOCUSED, GROOVE‑DRIVEN LEAD SINGLE
Bangalore‑based technical death metal outfit Nihilus have resurfaced with "Absurd Patterns," the lead single taken from their long‑awaited concept album Borealis, scheduled for release this October. Ten years after their debut EP Without Grey Matter, the Indian quartet returns with a track taking aim at overconsumption, political deceit, and ecological downfall. When a technical death metal band spends a decade between releases and promises intricate musicianship alongside dystopian concepts, there's always a concern that the music will turn into an unreadable exercise in speed and sweep‑picking. That was my initial skepticism before putting on "Absurd Patterns." But Nihilus avoid cluttering the soundscape just for the sake of showing off. Instead of drowning the track in endless guitar acrobatics, the intricate riffs serve a clear, driving momentum.

Dix ans après leur premier EP Without Grey Matter, le quatuor indien revient avec un morceau qui vise la surconsommation, la tromperie politique et l'effondrement écologique. Quand un groupe de technical death metal passe une décennie entre deux sorties et promet un jeu complexe avec des concepts dystopiques, on craint toujours que la musique ne se transforme en un exercice illisible de vitesse et de sweep‑picking. C'était mon scepticisme initial avant d'écouter « Absurd Patterns ». Mais Nihilus évite de surcharger le paysage sonore juste pour impressionner. Au lieu de noyer le morceau dans des acrobaties de guitare sans fin, les riffs complexes servent un élan clair et entraînant.

Rather than turning the track into a cold exercise in speed, the band keeps a heavy, driving groove under the technical guitar work. Manoharan and Manjunath switch up the tempo seamlessly, but the low‑end stays thick enough to give the vocal delivery real impact. With Siddhart Kamath's production keeping the mix punchy instead of over‑processed, it stands out as a focused, mean piece of death metal that doesn't rely on studio tricks.
Plutôt que de transformer le morceau en un exercice de vitesse froid, le groupe garde un groove lourd et entraînant sous le travail de guitare technique. Manoharan et Manjunath changent de tempo de manière transparente, mais les graves restent suffisamment épais pour donner à l'interprétation vocale un réel impact. Avec la production de Siddhart Kamath qui garde le mix percutant au lieu d'être surtravaillé, le morceau se distingue comme un morceau de death metal concentré et méchant qui ne s'appuie pas sur des astuces de studio.
