Album Spotlight / Review: MOONLIGHT DESIRES - "Totally Tubular 80's Party Machine" (EP)
HAMILTON, ONTARIO HARD ROCKERS REIMAGINE '80S POP HITS AS HEAVY ROCK ANTHEMS ON A SEVEN‑TRACK EP
Hamilton, Ontario hard rockers Moonlight Desires are set to return on November 27, 2026, with Totally Tubular 80's Party Machine, a seven‑track EP released via Infamous Butcher Records that continues their long‑standing practice of converting '80s pop hits into heavy rock anthems.
"Take On Me" (Official Video)
The lead single, a cover of A‑ha's "Take On Me," illustrates the band's approach: replacing the original synth lines with thick, distorted guitars while keeping the song's familiar melody and pace. Rather than aiming for a note‑for‑note vocal imitation of Morten Harket, new primary vocalist Jay Ziebarth delivers a grittier, straightforward rock performance, supported by steady drum work from Failure's Kellii Scott.
Tracked at Mechanical Noise Studios in Dunnville, Ontario, under long‑time producer and guitarist Mitch Bowden, the EP expands across classics from Bronski Beat, Cyndi Lauper, and Spandau Ballet. Across the record, the emphasis remains on heavier guitars and straightforward rock vocals rather than radical changes to the original arrangements.
